I had to read that headline three times. Some quotation marks would help:

The “AI warning for Steam” browser plugin adds Steam search filtering.

Do people actually browse steam via web browser? I just use the actual steam storefront app since I’m going to be in it anyway when I play the game.

I almost exclusively browse the store via my regular web browser and because of that I have already become used to the steamdb browser extension providing addtional information. And the steam client itself is technically just a dedicated browser window.

I’ll have to check it out. It’s never really occurred to me before that there could be plugins to add additional functionality.

What steam really needs is a “I found the game you’re searching for, but I’m pretty certain you actually mean this other game with a very similar name and that’s actually popular” feature. They can call it The Outer Wilds feature. I was trying to get my friends to download it so we could talk about it, and he kept telling me about this RPG it kept coming up with.

The Outer Wilds feature (…) he kept telling me about this RPG it kept coming up with

So I assume, it was an “Outer Wilds” vs “Outer Worlds” thing because i vaguely remember these two games being released close to each other, any confusing which is which myself.
I don’t remember having had issues finding the game I was looking for, but I just tried searching for “the outer wilds” on steam and didn’t get the game in the results, only a DLC for it - because the game is just called “outer wilds”, without the article. So I guess there is room for improvement in regards to the fuzzy search on steam.

Overall, the steam storefront is very usable as it is, even without extensions. And because the steam client is not much more than a browser engine, displaying that page, I can see why someone might use the client exclusively.

I was just thinking how useful that would be in the Steam Next Fest thing. So much slop to filter out!

Broswer plugin? Meh… If only it was on steam or a second app for steam.
