Opening up a second front in your war has historically always worked out well

Given how Ukraine is mopping up with them right now, I don’t see a play here. Seems like antagonizing your big brother while you’re losing a fight with your little sister. It could be lack of creativity on my part but I can’t see any gains at all for Russia in attempting this.
Most common theory I hear is they would feel better losing to NATO than losing to Ukraine.
That’s almost funny if true.
That sounds almost mildly clever. Until you realize that even with the US, the rest of NATO has enough planes and missiles to turn everything with camo paint on it between the border and Moscow into a giant fireball.

Yeah that is the other one I hear. But if they are fighting NATO they are surely just going to see millions more dead and leave Russia as even more of a shithole.
Does millions more dead matter?
They won’t attack Poland as the current Polish president is boot licking Trump and an attack on Poland would potentially involve the US. So, I believe this is this usual fearmongering by the Polish elite with respect to a potential attack on Poland.
The Baltic states are indeed different: (1) little US support if whatever, (2) small countries, easy to invade larger parts, (3) a weak EU which prefers to raise fingers than to act and (4) which is flooded with politicians who are Putin’s puppets and losers, who are all talking the same time about independence, sovereignty and nationalism. I have words for these people mod may block me, so I remain quite.
