When Anon breaks up with her they will claim he was a demon sent to test their faith.
There’s only one way: Anon should simulate fainting like the mom and then explain that god told them they have to break up.
Nothing pisses religious nutjobs more than telling them that God spoke to you and said you were holier than they are.
Speak it in Latin and claim you don’t know what Latin even is. Then use Google Translate like some time later and tell her.
If she ask any questions just say the usual, “God works in mysterious ways”, “maybe this is a test from God like in the book of Job”, or “are you questioning my faith or yours?”
Babble nonsense. They call it “speaking in tongues” and think it’s super legit
Just write down some basic algebra and they’ll probably think it’s a demonic spell.
“I think the demon attached itself from you. If God favored you then He’d protect you from them, I think someone in your family is harboring a Dark Presence. We’re unequally yoked.”
Religious people are all nuts, just the degree varies a little bit.
Everyone is nuts. Religious people just far more uniformly
Not me. I remembered an umbrella!
Honestly this is it. It’s why it’s so stabilizing especially to a medium sized community (too small you get cults, too big you get institutionalization). Everybody agreeing to be weird in a specific way at a specific time at regular intervals has a lot of benefits, literal health benefits even. You definitely get some real fucked up outlier behavior but religion doesn’t have widespread staying power throughout generations for no reason.
Pretty much. People attempting to drive others to atheism when they should be driving people to be less dickish is the most common goof I’ve found. Some people need an ethos and religion helps.
The problem with conglomerating your craziness is that whatever it conglomerates around becomes socially and politically powerful, and whatever ethos it offers tends to be deeply flawed. For jumped up apes trying to function at a higher level, self reflection and the capacity to question your delusions are essential skills, but these are anathema to religion. The belief system must protect and promote itself. So instead you end up supporting a bunch of pedophiles who want to fuck up the entire world, and getting all giddy about the mess you’re making because you just can’t wait for Jebus to come back and fix everything. So while I’m not really disputing the social and mental health benefits of religion at an individual scale, we’re currently experiencing the worldwide political and environmental consequences of large scale, organized, delusional thinking, and it isn’t pretty. At least if we could all agree that when you join a religion you give up your right to vote, it wouldn’t be so bad.
It seems more like an issue with systems of power without proper maintenance cycles, rather than an issue of lined up delusions. The monarchy functioned reasonably well up until it didn’t, democracy functions reasonably well up until it doesn’t, central planning functions reasonably well until it doesn’t, etc…
Without giving systems of power a proper scrub, they fester, always. Almost exclusively because of gradual entrenchment of third party interests, which is the natural state of sociopolitical systems, unfortunately.
“Listen, your mon had a heatstroke. This isn’t a demonic attack. It’s common knowledge that this happens when doing hard work in extreme heat. I can’t be with someone who’s family believes that demons are behind common medical conditions. In other words: your family is insane and I can’t date you anymore. Bye”
How dare you sir, don’t deny my faith! /s
"I’m not denying you faith. Go be crazy. I don’t care. I just don’t want to deal with it. "
As someone who grew up in a conservative, Baptist home, I can tell you that this 100% isn’t the most insane thing I’ve heard or seen, but it falls right in line.
Insane how grown ass adults believe in absolute fairy tales written by the rich/kings to keep the lower classes subservient. In 2026.
I’d love to ask someone in the 1940s what they’d think of 2026. I bet they’d think we were all living on other planets and half cyborg by now. But nah. Trillionaires.
I feel like a trillionaire in 2026 would not be that surprising to someone from the 1940s, considering they had billionaires back then too.
Right. But I’m not sure they’d think this much wealth disparity would still exist with all the technology.
My cousin wouldn’t let his daughter watch Wicked because they whisper a spell during the movie.
I literally asked “Are you fucking serious?”
The query went right by his perception of me questioning his sanity as if I was making a remark in regards to the film itself.
Yeah, man. They’re everywhere.
“r-right.”
My parents nearly didn’t let me read or watch Harry Potter “cuz witchcraft”. There is a lot of stupid out there.
My step-siblings were not allowed to watch or play Pokemon in the late '90s because “they are demons that people catch and carry around with them.”
I heard about how Pokemon say their names because they are demons and repeating their names increases their power in the world because you summon demons by chanting their names and playing drums.
BRB, going to buy a drum and try this for myself.
Seriously, a lot of southern churches have this thing about drums because they believe some conspiracy theory that African Religion is actually “Demons!” and that they used drums to summon the demons… And that rock music is bad because it uses drums, which summon demons.
It’s stupid and racist
Yep. My mom is the last thing I hold any level of doubt for. I let her have her Christian thises and thats and I indulge her just enough to keep her happy. She was and is a great, loving mother who deserves to go out comfortably, and I’m seeing to it.
… but the very week she’s gone, the filter is off and is never going back on. No one else deserves it and it literally sucks the life out of me to nod along to someone else’s insanity when they’re around. It’s draining.
I have to wash off with NetGeo documentaries, Nova episodes and Twain essays after every visit.
I think my father in law still believes Hurricane Katrina was a punishment to the people of New Orleans from God Himself. I’ve never heard him say similar things about other natural disasters though.
My parents told me that the Clinton’s, Gates family, and other influential people go to masquerade parties where they murder babies and wear their skin as masks. And they were 100% serious.
In the world of Epstein Island revelations, there is some fucked up stuff out there, but I’m pretty sure we’d know if people were mass slaughtering babies for fun.
This is what gets me. We have proof billionaires have a secret child sex club. That’s not even a conspiracy theory anymore. But why do people still feel the need to endlessly speculate and wonder if it’s “actually something worse?” I do not understand the conspiratorially minded. Like I legit saw someone say in response to the first Esptein file releases say “what is this supposed to be distracting us from?” Like… HUHHH??? This is your HOLY GRAIL! The thing you e always wanted! Hard proof that the elite have a secret child sex club and you’re reaction is “seems fake, what are they really hiding.” Blows my mind.
Also, you is directed at the person I was talking about, not you you. In case this comes across as accusatory.
Yeah it’s actually incredible the mental gymnastics involved.
It’s also fun when a Republican is involved, because it’s “clearly overblown or fake”, but when it’s someone they don’t like (usually a Democrat), THEN it’s a problem.
this 100% isn’t the most insane thing I’ve heard or seen
What would that be then?
I have a few:
- When looking at the video feed from a night vision camera, my parents tried to convince me the white specs floating around were angels and souls watching over us (it was dust in the air refracting the infrared)
- Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton are part of a baby murdering cult were they skin baby faces to wear as masquerade masks
- Bill Gates is building COVID-19 nanites and putting them in the vaccines
- The whole QAnon conspiracy stuff they REALLY got into
- My wife and I are being controlled by the devil and now our kids are damned because we got them vaccinated, since it’s “The Mark of the Beast”.
My parents are estranged now. You can imagine why.
“I really like you, but you and your family are religiously insane so I think we should see other people. I’m gonna try to see someone with a grip on reality, and you should try to see a professional”
Any adult who believes in Magick, God, angels, or demons has growing up to do.
Genuine question, no judgement, but why did you spell it Magick in this instance?
I used to be spiritual and got used to spelling it with a K.
I realized it was all bullshit. I thought I knew sacred knowledge and that the spells weren’t working because I wasn’t good enough…
I realized I’d never be good enough and that the guy who was teaching me magic was using it as an excuse to get high (he claimed we were doing sacred rituals that increases our magic power… we were fucking drinking DXM)
Wow, totally not where I was expecting that response to go. Super cool, you basically had the pagan version of a christian to non-christian realization. Wild!
I tried Buddhism for awhile only to realize that’s bullshit too.
Don’t believe the people who are all “Oh it’s just atheism but you meditate.”
Now there’s a rich theology with ghosts and heaven realms…
Meditation straight up doesn’t work as anything other than a breathing exercise. I saw no visions
Thought I remembered a past life but I’m pretty sure I made it up because I saw it from a third person perspective. I “remembered” being a Latina prostitute who sold drugs at an arcade
Ironically, that’s a super Buddhist statement. The idea that you would go do a Buddhist meditation with the expectation of gaining something from it is antithetical to what Buddhism is about. I’m not a Buddhist, I don’t meditate, but I remember going to a session with my significant other and a bunch of people were like, “how many sessions of this do I have to do before I start getting the effects (depression getting better, anger issues, etc).” They completely missed the point that the whole thing is about self-reflection, or as you said, a breathing exercise.
If you’re a mindful and competent person then you probably aren’t gaining much from guided meditation. If you’re struggling with some stuff then taking 30 min of dedicated time to work through it is probably a good thing. If you’re a certain type of Neurodivergent and have trouble focusing, then it’s probably something you could do every day.
More importantly, if you’re a 3rd century AD monk who has a ton of time on their hands, it’s probably not a bad way to spend your time (other spiritual/religious groups would do the same praying)
Enlightenment is just realizing truths that go against assumptions that get programmed into us by the way we are raised into society. Meditation, I think, is a way to think neutrally about things, which can make it easier to realize those truths, because we can have a lot of emotional attachment to the untruths they replace.
I don’t really meditate myself (hence the “I think”) though psychedelics might have helped prime me for several enlightenments (it’s not just one thing). Enlightenment doesn’t really solve any life problems but make it way easier to navigate life emotionally by adjusting expectations and entitlements.
I suspect the mysticism added on to Buddhism was intended to address the existential dread about the certainty of death (the reincarnation stuff) as well as try to temper those that realize nothing is really stopping them from doing whatever the fuck they want to others if they either have the power for it or don’t care about what happens to themselves afterwards (the karma stuff).
Personally, I separate the mysticism from the philosophy, where I consider the latter very useful for living a happy or at least content life and the former fun to think about, probably wishful thinking, but no real way to know unless there is something after death.
My experience from taking the MBSR was that the match of meditation techniques to practitioner was wildly idiosyncratic.
I think the best thing about that class is that it just exposes you to a dozen or so different styles, and hopefully you like one or two.
My experience with the body scan is that it is best done guided, at least for the first few years, because you need to be walked through your blind spots.
Now if only we could stop ex-christians from flocking to the nearest pagan/eastern religion and just live the life they have to the fullest just for themselves we’d really be onto something as a species.
New Age Spirituality is a trap. People think they can get spiritual benefits or embrace a supernatural world if they do it the right way.
The truth is there’s no magic. You don’t have a soul, the entire concept of souls is utterly disproven by neurology.
This is the only life you have, you aren’t gonna die only to wake up in the astral plane with super powers and a spirit guide.
Just give up on faith. The whole damn thing is a trap designed by charlatans to steal your money and waste your time.
Preach!
I don’t hate on people wanting to believe in something, but people need to stop believing in scams in general. If you wanna believe in Jesus Christ, that’s fine, just don’t think you’re obligated to give your money to a church that says it’s helping the poor when 90% of donations go to keeping the building and pastor in good condition. The fucking gall of a pastor driving a Lexus and having a boat while even a single member of the church is poor is a fucking spit in the face.
No it’s not okay to believe in Jesus Christ. He didn’t die for your sins, the earliest writings about him are from decades after his death. There were never 500 witnesses only the claim of 500 witnesses.
We need to be focused only on things that are actually true. Lies like religion are what lead to America becoming the failed Christofascist state it is.
A Christian Mindset is nothing but delusion and delusion should not be condoned or encouraged.

This comment could be written in any human language, but with local specific drugs, as far back as humans existed lmao
“Unga said spell make daughter heal. Me know bullshit. Unga just use excuse to eat mushrooms with me.”
Also I’m not making fun of you it’s just this is human spirituality and has been with us as long as we’ve had mind altering substances
She’s a dev, she’s used to https://imagemagick.org/
She ain’t a red flag she a whole chinese military parade.
Fake: Anon has gf Gay: Convoluted break-up fantasy to explain why he can’t get with girls integrates his actual religious trauma from his own homophobic fundy household growing up
I’d probably talk to the girl and see if she holds the same beliefs. She’s Christian, yes, but there are plenty of people raised in such families that use the term out of familiarity, but don’t share the extreme views of their parents.
Though with that said, even if the girl isn’t off the deep end, I’d understand that having her parents as potential in-laws could be a bridge too far.
Everyone is going with the satanism or whatever non-Christian antics they are coming up with.
That’s too easy.
Study some Bible verses and understand the tenents of the religion. Learn enough about the family to find something you can use. Then break up with her by saying her family are heretics and state that reason. Tell her they’re all going to hell and close the door tight. Never talk to her again.
It schisma time!!!
You get it. Insidious “mustard seeds”, if so needed. You can’t always logic someone quickly, it takes a lot of time to even consider changing any core beliefs. But I really value my time. So it’s either worth it, or I’m taking the path of least resistance… aka, “your family’s the devil and you didn’t even know. Sorry, God certainly loves YOU though. And maybe we woulda worked in a different life, but until then; bye and god bless”
But does she think her parents are nut jobs, it would be a rare family whose child completely agrees with the views of the parent especially when the views of the parent are so, er, disconnected from reality.
My parents are religious nuts, doesn’t mean I am.
I was once invited to a pool party by a girl back when I was a freshman at college. When I got there they were baptizing people.
There was free food though so I stuck around.
Freshmen year of college is all about maximizing the amount of free stuff you can get, especially food.
I remember playing this 3 day LARP, the kind with pre-written in-depth characters and story that is played over 3 days strait in characeter, in Wierd Wild West setting, where I played a Trapper that was about to marry someone from the local village, my family was married into but my parents died shortly after.
It eventually turned out that the whole village is a cult that eats people to keep some kind of evil imprisoned, and my fiance’s family is the one spiritually leading it, and I still can’t forget the nights spent trying to reasonably argue and discuss with my fiance that it’s definitely not ok and we should just leave.
I obviously never had to have discussions like this in real life, but it was pretty interesting how extremely futile it is. They have so many arguments you can’t say anything against. Once they start with “But this is our purpose given to us by God, if we don’t do this the whole world will end”, or “It was God’s will, you will understand soon”, you really don’t have much to say to that to get through.
Of course, it was just a LARP and she played her character well, but now I can pretty vividly imagine that talking to someone who’s so much into anything like that is extremely difficult, to the point of being futile.
(I managed to convince her to leave, the winning argument was “Your grandmother tried to poison me, here is proof”, lol).
The thing with RPG worlds is, when the characters are saying these kinds of things there’s a good chance that this is actually and demonstrably how that RPG world works and they’re not just a bunch of grifters.
Oh, it was definitely how that world worked, and she played that role really well.
But, the experience (especially in multi-day nonstop LARPs, where you immerse into the world and your character really extensively) is pretty indistinguishable from real-life. At least in how you perceive it. For the few days, your life has these problems now. And you just accept it and get into it, and don’t even consider a difference between real and “imaginary” problems. It’s hard to describe, tbh.
I was not trying to imply that any of the involved people were grifters, I was mostly talking about the experience of being in a situation like that, where you have to actually talk to someone like that. I’m pretty sure that there wouldn’t be much of a difference between talking to someone who can roleplay well and has spend two days in their character, vs. talking to someone who spent most of their life being indoctrinated like this.
Or rather, the problem-solving part of it. I had literal days in that world to figure out how to approach this, what to say so it would work in that situation, how to argue with her. I didn’t come up with anything that would work, and things that I came up with were swiftly rebated by fanatic religious speeches. Just like she had a pretty easy time of coming up with arguments I couldn’t say much against, that would still be perfectly in-character, as she told me after the LARP.
EDIT: I may have misunderstood your comment, sorry :D. Yes, you are right, it was how the world worked - we did eventually all died because some kind of evil has been awakened, lol. But that doesn’t change anything about the experience of having to argue with someone who’s indoctrinated in a cult vs. you, who don’t believe in stuff like that. It’s difficult. From my point of view, they were grifters, because I had no indication of proof of what they are saying, so I did my best to figure out what to do or say, and I couldn’t come up with anything.
Dammit you’re making me kinda want to try larping
I highly recommend it, especially the kind where you have a pre-written set of characters and story with semi-scripted events, instead of just being “bring your own character” (not sure how is this kind of LARP called). It’s such a different experience, because every character has a purpose, has as lot of conflicts, and everything is made to just work.
For example, one of the best LARPs we had here was a Disco Elysium inspired one, and it’s just such a cool experience.
But be careful, there is a reason why people compare this kind of LARPing to heroin :D You will probably emotionally crash out after it ends, just like it is pretty addicting.
I mean, it’s pretty different if what the weird cult claims could be true, i.e. gods and evil demons do exist in general. In the real world, you pretty much know that’s it’s all fake, the only remaining question is whether the person you’re talking to believes it or is in on the grift (it’s often kind of both, but I still think that the pure grifters have a different quality than the more standard religious/cult leaders who truly believe (most of) their self-serving drivel).
Fake/gay analysis: true and straight. Source: dated religious girl who’s mother was a religious lunatic. Super fucking likely to happen
