It’s just a small thing but I had some eggs and toast the other morning and remembered a friend’s suggestion to mix fresh basil into my scrambled eggs… so I literally walked onto my balcony and harvested some basil! Mind = blown. I grew that basil! I’ve been lovingly tending to it on my balcony for weeks and weeks and now I get to EAT it!!
It was delicious, in case you’re wondering. The eggs are fresh from my neighbor and went so nicely with the basil c:
EDIT: my neighbor’s chickens I mean
How did you grow toast???
you have to plant toast seeds duh
But where do you get seeds for seedless toast?
Just shave off top layer of an everything bagel and plant it br0
I actually use an unusual heirloom cultivar that technically is a lettuce rather than a fruit - I pick about half of my toast before it bolts and then let the rest go to seed for next year
yeah idk what the fuck that person is on about, you can grow whole-grain toast but white toast is cloned.
It is quite easy though: Just plant some of the crust and it’ll ro(o)t within a week.
You, yes you, created food; calories, nutrition, flavour; out of soil, water, and light!
It’s a magical feeling, and it never truly goes away even after years of growing. Well done!
:D!! Thank you very much!!
i hope the basil plant never reads this, poor thing having all its work taken from it
EDIT: my neighbor’s chickens I mean
Whew, I was worried for a moment
I’m procrastinating on laundry so thinking about this way too much:
Human eggs are only about 3.5 micrograms (0.0000035g) so to equal the weight of a typical 55g chicken egg you would need 15,714,285 human eggs. If you harvested them every month, you would need all the eggs from every ovulation from 35,000 human women in the entire span between puberty and menopause to equal the weight of a single chicken egg.
Mammal eggs also contain proportionally a lot less yolk than bird eggs, so even if you did all that it would probably be like having an all white omelette that looks like wet sand.
That’s going to be the big scandal of 2030, isn’t it? Some high up guy at a chain of IVF clinics secretly making nasty little omelettes.
hell yeah, you grew that! 🥳🙌
and really those chickens are your neighbours too, lol :D
Fresh herbs are great and a lot easier to grow than most people know.
I put some rosemary from the garden on vanilla ice cream with a little sea salt and honey. Changed my life.
:O that sounds so fancy!! I don’t have any rosemary this year… you can bet your heiney I’ll have some next year tho
