That’s the entire conservative mindset, and has been throughout all time: “how does this thing affect ME?”

The conservative woman they talk about here is an engineer. Almost all the engineers I know work 60-80 hour weeks.

That’s the thing with lots of Americans. We work so hard to pay the increasing rent and take care of ourselves and our families that we simply don’t have the time or energy to see outside the bubbles in which we live. We don’t go through the process of researching everything we hear on the news, so we’re easy targets for propaganda - especially now that it’s got algorithmic targeting to steer specific people in specific directions.

These people really, truly believe the lies they’re told about immigrants.

Oh, no I think there is, indirectly. If you’re working 60-80 hours a week, you have absolutely no home life and almost surely can’t grasp the concept of someone else wanting it. That is directly related to empathy towards others.

You’re right. I over simplified. Over working people is definitely a tool to make people more complacent. If you’re too tired or over worked, you’re too tired to fight (or care about others). Yay capitalism!

News from the wealthy controlled MSM is like junk food. It rots you, whereas solid information is like top quality food but it requires work and investment. Most people are just too busy and broke so they swallow the BS and keep on slaving away.

The sad part is, she agrees with you.

“I think we need some type of reform,” she said. “People don’t know about this process until it happens to somebody they know.”

Ownership of media outlets is a cause of so much of this.

How long do you think they’ll listen to you explaining all the systemic wrongs to them until their eyes glace over as there’s no simple solution?

Because that’s just how most people are.

People only care about what’s best for them and their own self-interests. The only difference is that some people think ahead or have a wider view of the general situation compared to others.

That people still think this goes to show you how uninformed people are. (That and Fox sure isn’t going to tell them it’s normal people, they’re going to tell them it is all criminals.)
