Gaming@beehaw.org•Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder [TWIV]
5·1 month agoWhy reference the imperfect copies gen AI makes when you have databases of the real original artists and pictures and 3d scans of real things in the world out there to reference.
I think it is because one of these approaches requires skill and time, the other requires a ChatGPT subscription and George Jetson to push one idiotic button.
It makes people feel that they can contribute in fields where they were previously (and still are) useless.

3·1 month agoPandora’s box is open and will never close again.
Yes…but this Pandora’s box just had a fart in it.
We know we can’t put the fart back in the box.
We just want people to stop acting like it is about to revolutionize modern cinema.
All it is going to do is clear the room.
Ohhhh… It took me (checks post age) seven hours to get it.

Many people in power today don’t seem to really understand the nature of power.

movies@piefed.social•Street Fighter Movie Reveal Trailer | The Game Awards 2025
1·2 months agoHow dare you compare this popular almost plot free slugfest to that… Other…popular almost plot free slugfest!
Edit: Of course, I’m joking. And I am vaguely aware that both franchises have some kind of plot now.
Still, I think it’s funny you got downvoted for making the obvious comparison. We either have one die hard fan in here, or someone with fat fingers meant to upvote you and misclicked.

2·2 months agoI hope so. That game made the rest of the stupidity of adapting a plot free game into a pointless movie worth it. Because we got a game out of it.

Dropout•[Question] What's your favorite Dropout show and episode of that show (so far)?English
5·2 months agoMy favorite DropOut show is “Play it by Ear”.
There’s not enough of it yet, but I re-listen to old episodes of their “Off Book: The Improvised Musical Podcast” to tide me over between seasons.
If I had to pick a favorite episode, it would still be from the Podcast, but the show keeps getting better.
Obviously Game changer is the best game show on any network. The latest surprise season bonus finale is my current favorite, followed by the other escape room episodes and of course “Yes or No”.
By total hours, I guess Dimension 20 is my favorite.
A tip for the D20 curious: start with more recent series, or one of the self contained live shows.
I think my favourite D20 is now tied between Never Stop Blowing Up and Mentopolis. Cloudward Ho is working for me, as well.
Um Actually, Dirty Laundry and Gastronauts deserve a shout out for helping get me through doing the dishes and laundry.
I forget sometimes that there isn’t anyone else really doing Um Actually with real nerd cred (that I have found. Recommendations welcome). I feel spoiled by it.
Gastronauts feels like it could become my favorite cooking show, once they dial in their unique balance of silliness and earnest food appreciation.
I wish Smarty Pants seasons were a bit more frequent. It’s such a nice showcase to discover new comedians.

Political Memes@lemmy.ca•This is what it looks like when billionaires own the media
3·2 months agoIt absolutely delay people buying. If you held out for 6 more months, you’d get a substantially faster computer.
That describes most of my life, under Moore’s Law.
I handled it in the traditional way: I bought what I wanted, and then I immediately cussed about my shitty timing to my friends the next day.

2·2 months agoIt’s not like cars would eventually cost negative money and they pay you to take them.
While I accept your point, I feel conditioned to interrupt here and clarify that I absolutely would download a car. There was some unexpected confusion about this, at one point.
Okay. Carry on. Thank you.

7·2 months agoI’ve always liked the idea of the cap being an immediate loss of any legal property protection.
This would not be through any process, they simply instantly legally cease to have any property rights anytime they cannot prove their net worth is below the limit.
Any member of the public can reclaim any piexe of their ex-property, until the not-quite-billiomaire gets a court ruling confirming their not-a-billionaire status.
Then the not-yet-billionaires can figure out how to constantly stay comfortably below the limit.
Or…they can file an updated wealth disclosure every time they attempt to keep anyone from walking away with any piece of their former property.
If they want to avoid the inconvenience of their yachts, cars, pets, plants, fences, lamps, and television sets being repossessed, they can negotiate with their employees unions for collective ownership in good faith, instead.
It’ll be fun to see how many of them are too stupid to take a good deal, and lose their stupid toys.

There’s nothing AI can add except mediocrity.
Generating a font can really shine a bright searing spotlight on our having not even a snowballs chance in hell of achieving the fabled any-day-now AGI worth anything with our current technology.
