  • Over the past few weeks I was thinking kind of the same thing. On one hand, I like watching world cup soccer and seeing the US men’s team do well for the first time in a long time is really great and I would be juiced to see them make it to the final.

On the other hand, it had to happen while we have one of the worst pieces of shit to ever occupy the white house, and he would somehow make their historic achievement about himself in some way and taint it forever, so I kind of want them to lose before that happens.

Either way it’s a win-win. I’ll be watching their games on a pirate stream so FIFA can’t earn any money off me taking a casual interest in the games this year.

  • This person: “Tourists go home!”

Tourists: "That… that’s the plan? Like eventually I’ll have to. "

I wonder what this graffiti was meant to accomplish? Like, someone on holiday would see it and be like “Oh shit, guess I’m not wanted here, let me cancel all my reservations and leave early. Wouldn’t want my presence here to upset the locals any further.”

  • In order to understand why space is “cold”, you have to understand how we, as humans, perceive temperature. What we feel as hotness or coldness is just how excited the molecules in the atmosphere are. Molecules very excited? It’s hot. Molecules very still? Cold.

Space is vast. Incomprehensible to our puny human minds that have evolved to exist on this tiny mote of dust. Most of space is devoid of matter. Sure there’s hydrogen and helium out there just floating around, but not enough of it for us to be able to feel. So space feels like cold, and indeed, is quite cold. But as the above poster explained, losing heat in space is fundamentally different than how we lose it on earth.

Your body generates heat to keep your squishy organs running smoothly. The way we prevent ourselves from overheating is we rely on perspiration and evaporation, but that only works if we have Earth-like conditions where airflow can carry that excess heat way from our bodies.

In space, there is no airflow. Your skin would freeze while your blood boils.

The same issue is present with our technology. Radiating heat is very, very inefficient in space because we need something to carry it away from the source that is generating it faster than it can generate it. At least with the tech, we can turn it off to let it cool slowly over time, but it doesn’t solve the fundamental problem of having no way to efficiently cool an entire AI datacenter that is meant to be used to fill a continuous demand here on Earth.

  • They always release to consoles first, but I don’t mind. Let the console players beta test all the imbalanced multi-player shit and then we’ll get the patched version with all of the jank fixed in the PC release down the line. A better experience for more patient gamers.

  • Self-sabotage when you experience a major life change (like taking a new job, for instance) is apparently a symptom of ADHD. I only discovered this last year when I went to see a therapist for feeling like I was in my own head, ruminating about the uncertain future, imposter syndrome, feeling like I wanted to quit, etc.

Therapy helped tremendously. Consider reaching out to a professional who specializes in ADHD/Anxiety disorders. They can help you come up with ways to cope with the feelings and make it through the adjustment period without blowing up your own plans and goals.

  • Yes, but then it becomes weighted by how much financial stake you have in the company, rather than the worker’s contribution to their success (I’d argue that employees have just as much at stake as most investors, as working for a living is their primary means of earning income, and losing thay income due to a business failing can be just as ruinous). If an individual holds 51% of the public shares, the voting process is performative at best. That person will always have the power to change the board of directors who will then set policy that aligns with whatever their desires are.
