The best I’ve got is to be more selfish and be okay with the idea that people and relationships are temporary. When a relationship feels like an event and not a forgone conclusion it doesn’t hurt as bad when it ends. It also helped me with grounding myself and reinforcing that my emotions are not always mirrored and are not factual.
Good post, I think OP’s opinion is dangerous and selfish. Ask any kid whose parents would punish them for As instead of A+s, and I’ll show you an adult with self-worth issues deep enough to become a monster. If the only choices are “win and be praised” or “lose and feel deep deep shame”, even perceived competition becomes cutthroat. In my opinion it is still good to celebrate success and effort even if you don’t reach the punultimate goal that very very few are even allowed to reach.
That life isn’t over, and you can choose to make it what you want for what remains. You’re resilient enough to have gotten here. While others settle and slow down, find a passion and chase it for a bit.

Checking in: yeah. The “aha” took a whole bunch of memes and stories I could relate to that pointed out the behavior I dismissed while growing up. I thought I was just depressed or something and buried thoughts about being a woman as impossible or just some fetish. Introspection getting better (mostly from therapy) and getting out of survival mode gave me the space and tools I needed to actually figure it out.
Anyway, I’m happier in the back half of my 30s than I’ve ever been since I’ve transitioned, even on my worst days.
Right? That is not my preferred skill set and I don’t enjoy those things. I like understanding and designing patterns. I like feeling connected to the code and problems I’m solving, and I like feeling clever when I come up with solutions.
AI takes all of that away. It’s got more data than I can ever cram in my skull, more energy than I’ll ever have available to me, and it’s being forced on us at every corner so it has access to things I’ll never see.
Honestly I would be okay with LLMs if they weren’t killing our planet and robbing us of our humanity and creativity.
