one previous snapshot had a known bug where if the vulkan renderer (back then the default iirc) was used on macos, the entire screen would be pink upon joining a world, making the game unplayable. it got fixed in the following snapshot.

imo, this is clearly a tumblr take, and one that was born in reaction to the other common tumblr take made by people who only care about children’s media and leftist theory, which is “beloved nostalgic animated series is actually secretly super progressive and leftist actually”, itself born out as a reaction to “beloved nostalgic animated series is kinda bigoted in some places tbh”

a fedi take would be “voting in elections or organizing revolution? this is a fake choice, neither lead to freedom. the only way to attain freedom is using linux.”

my interpretation is that kris is so empty and hollow following the events of chapter 4’s weird route, that there is simply nothing crossing their mind when interacting with stuff. they’re feeling nothing, and so you don’t get any flavor text. it’s representative of how kris is feeling.

in a more meta way, i think it’s also meant to reference creepypastas (where “there’s nothing where you’d expect stuff to be” is a common trope), and going out of bounds in general, where there’s often not flavor text because you’re not meant to interact with the stuff there. the chapter 5 weird route in general is about going oob, so maybe that’s a foreshadowing.
