  • Assuming they are disabled, which a passerby like myself cannot be expected to know, that does not excuse the deliberate choice to use ethically unsound technology. It’s especially true in this case, as even if a disability limits your potential as a visual artist, you’ll gladly commission somebody if you have any respect for the craft. I know this because I too have such a disability, and it hurts. It hurts knowing I might forever depend on the hands of others to bring some of my ideas to life, but you know what? That only strengthens my appreciation of visual artists and their work. I’d rather commission a talented artist to mix my silly brainwaves with their personal flourishes and create something meaningful, ten times over, then throw some words at an industrialized theft machine to get soulless slop.

  • The dev “owes us” as people to not be a shitty person, or at the very least, we should expect them not to be one. It absolutely is a slap in the face to people who trusted that project and the person heading it to not be shit, because they are now being shit, and people are right to call them out. Because they’re being shit.

Also you’re right, more people should donate to FLOSS projects that they love and use frequently, as do I. As someone with no programming knowledge, it’s all I can do aside from recommending your software to others. Wanna know one way to ensure I’ll not only withhold donations but warn others not to use or trust your software? Defending and/or using AI slop machines.

  • I like your thought process, but struggle to agree with you because I don’t believe there is a way for this kind of technology to be ethical without being rebooted (haha) from the ground up. Even so, about the only thing I think it should be used for is double checking what humans have already done, or perhaps printing text from human speech for quick and dirty subtitles. However, all that is assuming that the data it is working off of was not stolen, and that it is not able to “generate” anything “new” because that’s just theft and exploitation.
