Belief in witchy shit is as dumb as believing in conspiracy theories and I place these people in the same category.

Cynical and bitter mutualist & consequentialist. I hate accelerationists and their apologists as much as I hate fascists.
I used to want good things, but everyone else seems to be fine with bad things. So now I’m pro-vacuum decay event.

it’s really harmless.
No its not. Belief in bullshit has negative consequences for the individual, their friends and family, and society as a whole.
Now, is it comparatively less harmful than some other things they could believe in? Absolutely but its still bad.

Television@piefed.social•'I haven't sat down to play the games, and I won't': Fallout's Walton Goggins says he 'not interested' in playing the RPGs his show is based onEnglish
20·6 days agoIf he is dedicated to the world and his character, that’s sufficient. Hes a fantastic actor. buuuut…
I would suspect that him playing the games would not make him “think of the world or the characters of Fallout as elements of a game.” but I’m not Walter Goggins. Realistically, hes just not into video games with major story campaigns and doesn’t understand they’re just a different form of story telling media. He’s thinking of video games as exclusively as an avenue of competition, mastery, or challenge.
So I think hes wrong, but I don’t know that it matters that materially.

1·2 months agoEpic is a cornered animal of a corporation that threatens to undermine a stable and generally positive status quo in the PC space and is owned in part by an authoritarian country’s proxy company. (Sort of like how EA is now, though less direct obviously) If they succeed in their plans the PC space just becomes straight up worse for PC players.
Maybe as far as evil goes Microsoft by its sheer size might beat it because Microsoft has its fingers in all sorts of pies. But Microsoft isn’t as hungry or ravenous and is less immediately dangerous, its more like a lumbering giant where one hand barely knows what the other is doing. It’ll knock over good things, generally cause harm, and enshitify its own products but its all a much slower process.
I hate loud stupid people influencing game balance so fucking much.
I’m glad I don’t play PVP games anymore.
If I ever get back into game dev though and make a multiplayer game…

simpsonsshitposting@sh.itjust.works•For those old enough to remember when it started going downhillEnglish
5·2 months agoSo they’ve changed. They’ve changed by becoming more evil.
TBH, before this, EA was comparatively less evil to pre-Microsoft Activision. And when Microsoft bought Activision they made Activision comparatively less evil as well by diluting the evil with more mundane lumbering giant capitalist corporate sludge. Still pretty evil though.
This is one of those rare situations where a company going private is making them worse than being publicly traded.
There almost ought to be an evil ranking for these game companies. Ubisoft would arguably be on top of the list atm, or maybe tied with Nintendo or Roblox. Saudi-Kushner-SilverLake-EA, Konami, Epic Games, and WB not to distant.
Take Two Interactive, Sega, Embracer Group, Capcom, Bandai-Namco, Microsoft, and Sony probably still hover around the middle.
Devolver Digital, Valve, and CDPR arguably near the bottom. Least evil. Arguably not even evil just flawed.
Maybe Bigmode, Itch.io, & Kojima Productions actually at the very bottom?
No I’m at fucking work.

13·2 months agoBest of both worlds: Always role play a tactician or veteran if you have a lot of game knowledge and you want to use it.
Play an idiot when you are playing a game set in a world or using a system you are completely unfamiliar with.
There’s a number of the games that notably effected me after completion. Star Fox (SNES), Halo: Combat Evolved, Morrowind, KOTOR 1&2, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Dead Space, Hotline Miami, Undertale.
I’m probably forgetting some.

That said yeah obviously I’d be to the moon if he was president right now.
Right now because Trump won a second time I’m dead inside. And I think I’ll probably be dead inside forever because even if we elect someone better in 2028 I’ll know we elected Trump twice. That will haunt me forever.

Technology@lemmy.world•China's green energy boom could spell the end of the fossil fuel ageEnglish
6·4 months agoOnly up to a point, fossil fuels getting cheaper will reach a point where it wont be worth extraction outside of for niche customers.
If renewables become plentiful and cheap enough globally fossil fuels will more or less die off in use, even if right now they’re going upward in use its temporary. The problem is we’re stuck with severe consequences even if they do eventually largely stop. We’re stuck with severe consequences if they stop this very instant in fact.
What we really want is renewable energy to become so cheap and plentiful that not only do fossil fuels stop being used but carbon capture technology’s high energy cost becomes null and it just becomes a net good. ATM the technology is useless because the high energy cost ends up just putting more co2 into the air anyway than is removed.
Both seem ripe to be someone’s fursona.

I fundamentally disagree.
I actually don’t think we should teach bullshit and call it “foundational”. I don’t think that’s helpful at all. If you are teaching kids states of matter, they can count higher than three, and understand that the class wont cover every kind of matter.
If one’s “foundational” education ends up directly contradicting advanced education, it ends up being a way to cement simplified and conservative views of the world. A la “there are two genders” shit that you mention from conservatives and TERFs. If your education system is fostering that kind of mentality its a reflection of that education system’s failure.
I’d rather women get together based on a shared love of science and engineering.
If they’d rather dress up and act as witches they should get into theater or become goths. Or just celebrate Halloween year round.
But they didn’t. They obtained a new form of constructed collective delusion & superstition. They’re forming just another arbitrary aesthetics-based in-group to sneer at out-groups from.
