I never tried pirating native linux programs, but windows stuff worked well for me. Use some sort of wine prefix manager for this, like bottles. I used PlayOnLinux, but its an old buggy mess and there are modern alternatives nowadays. There is also umu-launcher and stuff that uses umu, which is more for games, but also works well for programs.

The most trouble I had was with installers and setup tools that need certain files to be in certain locations. There is a mod manager for Dawn of War 2 thats an exe that needs files from an installed game, and it was very bad on linux, with missing fonts and crashes. I got it to work with some fiddling however. On WineDB and ProtonDB there is guaranteed at least one person who had any given problem and has an arcane solution, or at least a bug report with lots of information, so try there if you are stuck. I personally have no faith in Xlibre, its developer(s?) seem inexperienced and their contributions to x11 codebase are of low quality

Thankfully there are other projects around keeping x11 alive:

theres xwayland-satellite, which implements more of x11 in wayland so you can basically run an x11 session with wayland support.

And than there is phoenix, which is a new implementation of x11. Supposedly it shall have none of the legacy garbage code that makes x11 so hard to maintain.

The amended EP position adopts a positive, yet rather cosmetic amendment proposed by the liberal RENEW group that would “exclude communications to which end-to-end encryption is, has been, or will be applied” from the scope of the law.

This isnt cosmetic, this is genius! It satisfies lawmakers who want to make this pass to “save the children” and have no idea of the consequences, and it satisfies the lawmakers with braincells since makes the law inapplicable to secure communications.

I hope this does pass so they finally stop trying to push it through. But since they did pass the voluntary one but are still trying to pass the non-voluntary one, I think they will just try to spam chat control laws until their dystopic aim is achieved.

Very cool idea. Now I want a radiation sensor in my smartphone.

What I dont like is the tone of the article. It pretends as though the act of civillians smuggling highly radioactive material in order to conduct terrorism is a trend that is so common, that we must implement complete and total spectroscopic surveillience using all smartphones in the world in order to stand a chance of combatting it.

Quite frankly the idea is ridiculous on many levels. First, that we cant track such acts any other way, and secondly, that this stuff happens in the first place. From the article repeatedly stating that the physics community needs to understand the necessity of this, I can tell that even their own colleges arent convinced.

The part where they state that nuclear terrorism will be conducted using cartel owned “drug mules” makes me think they watched too many movies with that plot.

Other than that I think radiation sensors in smartphones is a really cool idea :)

I saw World on a Wire. Its not good. It takes forever to go anywhere, the effects are horrible and the pacing is atrocious. No idea why it was recommended. The Thirteenth Floor is a superior adaptation in almost every way, but I wouldnt call it cyberpunk, more like traditional scifi. Its good though.

Yeah it was inactive for a while, but was forked, and that ones last commit was 4 months ago, and is now the canonical git repo. Thats the one I linked. Then just a little while ago it was forked again with those vibecoded changes. I presume they are going to reimplement it properly, there is an open issue where they are trying to clean up the fork for merging.

sc-controller is the solution I used, but they are currently in the process of adding the new controller. There is a fork that has already implemented it, although it needs to be rewritten to merge, since that fork’s changes are vibe coded. Here is that fork

Its well designed software, and it even has quick switching between user created layouts and an overlay.

Linux only.

Well, you could configure your desktop this way on basically any linux distro!

Theres nothing special about Arch that makes this easier, just the vague feeling of superiority that comes with having made it on a distro that prides itself on not being user friendly(and the fact that obscure packages are usually in the AUR).

I had a pretty radical wayfire + sawfish + crystal dock setup on opensuse tumbleweed for a while. Opensuse has OBS, which is basically like AUR but more user friendly and with a bit more security. But I didnt need it, since they had everything I wanted in the main repo.

So basically, peer discovery is through Cloudflare, until a connection is made, and then it gets sent through google? And since there are a lot of AI generated assets: How much of your code was AI generated?
