  • The Shinkansen network in Japan was infamously extremely expensive and during its construction, many Japanese hated it and doubted it would ever amount to much. Today, it is held up as the best public transit system ever created.

Here in Seattle, the Link Light Rail system is also extremely expensive, though this is due to many factors, notably the fact that between the time the project got started and initially set its funding goals, the Covid pandemic happened and massive inflation, both in currency and in raw materials. However, the lines that are finished are extremely nice. The Link system is shaping up to be some of the best in the entire US, and the biggest and most important section hasn’t even opened yet: the world’s first rail line to travel across a floating bridge. Once the bridge section is complete, it will connect the two separate systems on the west and east sides of Lake Washington into one system and allow fast, efficient transit from the east side into downtown Seattle.

Anyway, my point is that just because a system is expensive, doesn’t mean it’s bad. I think you’re just furthering car-centric propaganda and reinforcing the belief that public transit is expensive and therefore bad

  • I’ve visited before, yes, and I know exactly what you mean lol. I felt the same way when I was there, the freedom of movement and quality of life about everything is so incredible that you just have to experience it yourself to believe it. I think visiting with my partner would help, but that’s a lot of money at a relatively short timescale to prepare in case things get really bad. We could do it, but…

What’s the Discord you’re using to learn Dutch? I’ve actually been “learning” for a few years just using Duolingo and I’ve been pretty lazy over the last year so I’ve stalled. Netherlands was actually always my goal before I even started dating my partner, which is partly contributing to our problems I think.

  • Not really, but this seems more like projection to me.

There is only thing I know for sure and it’s that the shooter wasn’t a leftist. There is nothing about him that suggests him being a leftist, and certainly nothing that would suggest he’s been radicalized to the point of a targeted killing by the left. The only thing you have to go on is what the state and federal investigators say they have, which they obtained through a source they didn’t name.

  • Although I agree that Robinson seems to be politically ambiguous, he most definitely has a right-wing bent. Him being apolitical or even a kind’ve slight leftist doesn’t explain how he became radicalized enough to commit a targeted political killing.

My theory is that he was radicalized as a teenager since we have strong evidence that he spent a lot of time online as a teenager. Given all the factors (white cis male in a MAGA household living in Utah who grew up terminally online and described as a hardcore Gamer), it makes sense to me that he was a Groyper or at least spent a lot of time in Groyper spaces outside of the Discord channel mentioned in this article and that was what radicalized him to hate Charlie Kirk. If the feds are to be believed and he was dating a trans woman, then that would provide the motive for acting on his pre-existing hatred for Charlie, but it wouldn’t explain how he got radicalized enough to act on that hatred in the first place.

As as aside, I strongly disagree with this article that Robinson is bisexual. If he’s a rabid rightoid dating a trans woman, then he would likely consider himself straight and he’s just dating his girlfriend. If he’s a woke leftie dating a trans woman, then he would likely consider himself straight and he’s just dating his girlfriend. In either case, I highly doubt he would consider himself bisexual at all just because he’s dating a woman.

  • Can you really imagine a far Right killing Kirk would be doing so because they “had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out” ?

Yeah I can actually. A young white man radicalized by years of being terminally online in groyper spaces who already hated Charlie Kirk for not being extreme enough, who then started to date a trans woman (if the feds are to be believed on this at all). All the trans romantic partner angle gives is a more clear motive, but doesn’t actually explain his radicalization to the point of a targeted killing. Being a groyper does.

  • Just because you can’t hear the dog whistle does not mean it doesn’t exist. The thing with Groypers, and many white nationalists over the past decade, is that they’re full of ironic memes, co-opting liberal media, and hidden language as a tactic to confuse people like you into believing they’re not an extremist movement at all
