Reddit has streaks now??
deleted by creator
I mean back when duolingo has discussions or what they called it, you might write nasty stuff. But now, imagine being banned for the wrong translation.
I haven’t used duolingo for a few weeks because my hack to have infinite hearts broke again and I’m too lazy to put in the effort even tho it’s not that difficult actually
I’m gonna be real, Duolingo is literally only good for motivation and easy vocab review. It has been years since I used it, but the best advice I got on that website was when forums still existed and people told me that the translations for JP were shit and to learn somewhere else, which is probs why those forums got deleted.
If you have to use hacks to not be bored/deal with the bullshit, then just leave man. It’s not worth the bird begging you to come back. Find stuff online, YT (unfortunately) is your friend for resources.
I use Busuu for Fr*nch these days.
The thing is that I needed to learn a language but that duolingo motivated me to learn a language in the first place. It sadly never made me dig much deeper. Nothing else I’ve tried ever stuck. So for me it’s not duolingo or learn a language seriously but duolingo or candy crush (never actually played that game but you get the point)
Try Busuu
Gamified social media with streaks and fomo notifications for daily scrolling or posting or whatever is hilariously bad and transparent.

Every? It was news to me that even reddit does this. I must have left them all too early.
deleted by creator
It seems I dodged so many bullets, I might be Neo.
Twitch also has them now for how many of someone’s consecutive streams you watch
I use TikTok and I didn’t know it had anything like that

That’s it, we are taking away the awards system.
Jk, you can have it back.

The streak made me want to not log in days in a row because it highlighted how much time I had wasted on the site.
Even on old reddit they have these annoying and constant “achievement” notifications now.
I’m so glad I left completely (minus the random search result with no other leads, but no browsing) when the API fuckery started, corporate social media sounds like an absolute hellscape now.
I’m almost there, I had to block the reply button with ublock origin. Quite the habitual addiction.
Why not just nuke the accounts and be done with it
Honestly it’s two niche debate subs that kept me engaging that there’s no substitute for. I think with the reply button blocked I’ll be able to delete my account again soon. Yep I’ve relasped before.
…and I mainly used those subs to deprogram from my upbringing. That’s the real truth, I found it healing.
Fam if you need to use reddit don’t feel bad about it. “The trick is not to ignore the mainstream, but to selectively raid it for things we can use.” -M. Gunderloy
I hear you but again I’ve left out an important detail. Those debate boards have moderators who are mostly checked out since the API drama, so the influx of morons using ChatGPT to “think” for them without getting banned has become intolerable and incredibly depressing when considering the long term implications of that among youth.
The positive feelings are an afterglow.
Wha… do you get some kind of reddit currency if you make a post that breaks 1000 upvotes, with a multiplier based on your log in streak length?
Jesus Christ, these fucking dark pattern, microtransaction shit just needs to be universally banned.
Yeah honestly a social media streak getting bigger is a sign I should probably take a day off.
They have a “basement dweller” achievement if you hit two years.
Many many years and ass loads of karma…
But apparently LIKING posts can get you banned now. What a shit show.
It’s all a ploy to control what we think.
Ideas are powerful, that’s why they don’t want us to have any of our own.
And nothing of value was lost
What did you do?
Not op but I got perma banned for fighting with people who were defending massive pedophile Dr disrespect. They were arguing that “it was legal that means it’s okay”. I pointed out that the US is fucked and certain states have consent laws at 16. Legally he could fuck a 16 year old. However that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a pedophile scumbag regardless of legality.
I was then banned for “child sexual content” :)
Sounds right.
Reddit has gotten so pathetic. Sad to see it fall so hard. If it was like this in 2012 I would have never signed up
I tend to think that 16yo is fine so idc, they do their things
However I still think Disrespect is a moron (for other reasons)
Going to get downvoted but I’m making my part by de-echo chamberifying lemmy
This is like the defining case of “just because it’s legal doesn’t make it okay.” An 18 year old and a 16 year old is one thing. It’s very different when it’s a 30-something year old and a 16 year old. That’s like a high school senior trying to get with a 12 year old.
There’s a massive power imbalance in a relationship like that where the 30-something has basically total control. Even a 30-something with a college kid has issues imo, let alone a kid who’s a sophomore or junior in high school. That’s some Quamire from Family Guy shit. “I love high school girls. I get older, they stay the same age.”
Half your age plus seven is the rule of thumb that I’ve heard. At 18, that means the lowest you should be dating is 16. At 32, it’s 23. Etc.
Also, echo chambers are good, actually, and you can’t change my mind. Life isn’t supposed to be a constant argument, and the criticism of surrounding yourself with people who generally agree with you is a tactic that’s been used to prevent people from simply cutting toxicity out on social media platforms.
Plus there are some things unworthy of argument. The existence of trans people, not an argument. Fucking a 16 year old as a grown adult is fucked up, not an argument. Holders of these anti-truths are just bad people covering their own failings
“just because it’s legal doesn’t make it okay.”
I know.
There’s a massive power imbalance in a relationship like that where the 30-something has basically total control.
I’ll not agree and say it depends on the two people. It might also not be a relationship and just a one time sex thing, or other. But I’ll agree that it doesn’t sound good in general, but it’s pretty common and doesn’t always end badly.
Half your age plus seven is the rule of thumb that I’ve heard. At 18, that means the lowest you should be dating is 16. At 32, it’s 23. Etc.
I know this rule and I find it too restrictive at specific ages, and generalizing something that can’t be only related to age. It all depends on the personality and maturity of the 2.
My take: being attracted to minors when 23+ isn’t fine and pretty disgusting (when the main goal is sex or similar), but if the people talk a lot and learn about each other, then falling in love isn’t so disgusting and is understandable, although the adult should really pay attention to how they behave and should avoid any hierarchy
DE ECHO CHAMBER LEMMY VIA COMING OUT AS A PEDOPHILE YOURSELF. WHAT A TAKE.
ew
Not enough pedophiles here 😔It’s just your POV. I’d say that pedophile refers to children, and I don’t consider a 16yo person to be a child. Some can be mature enough, although it might be rare and should be handled case by case, instead of making a stupid generalization.
Jesus Christ. No they cannot. She isn’t mature for her age, your just a pedophile making excuses to justify your attraction. That makes you a predator. Ew
Sure. You know better than everyone. Congrats. Doesn’t have to be a “her” btw…
Funny that I got called a pedophile as well when I was a minor. Fun times. Being with someone way older isn’t always bound to end badly, provided the adult isn’t a bad person (which isn’t easy in the world we live in) and that both understand the risks and adopt the right posture.
I also know other people who have been in a similar situation. Sometimes it went okay, sometimes not.
“I am a multi gender focused predator”
Ew.
I avoid YouTube/twitch drama like the plague, because you can’t really tell if they support or criticize the streamers,
I got banned for commenting on a video of something like “guy loses it in van and runs down protestors” my comment was pointing out that they were running into the way of an already (slow) moving van and then leaping dramatically to the ground. It was like a grade school production of a Chinese insurance scam en masse.
Well the sentence that initially got me a three day ban was “Hitler did nothing wrong” which I’m aware doesn’t look good on paper but it was a quote and not my own words. According to Reddit the decision was automated so I appealed what I thought was an honest mistake and that’s when they probably saw my recent posts promoting Lemmy and talking about Palestine and decided to ban me permanently. That or they didn’t like that I filed an appeal. I haven’t used Reddit nearly as much since getting on Lemmy anyway so this is more funny than annoying but still a weird way to go.
Having gone cold turkey and just left, it’s weird no matter how you leave. Realizing how addicted I was, was kind of hard for my psyche.
It’s next to impossible to go back anyways, people are getting banned eventually. I’ve been seeing reports of people’s 5+years acc getting shadow banned for very little reason it doesn’t make sense. A comment removal, low karma, cqs scores, age is enough to trigger a full site wide shadowban. I’ve been hearing also temp bans turned into permanent almost as fast the temp ban ends
Spez loves Elon. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was bending the knee to try and get Elon to buy Reddit.
I bet they’re focusing on the old.r users, they’ve been wanting to get rid of that for awhile. If they shadowban you and leave on your own randomly, there won’t be another mass exodus. That’s conjecture though.
Anecdotally that fits my experience. I’ve refused to use new Reddit at every turn (save the app where you have no choice), and I got permabanned yesterday despite no real escalation in my rhetoric. I’ve always spoken my mind, and let fascists and conservatives know exactly how low I think of them, and until about a month ago none of it had copped me even a temporary ban.
I feel you. ‚But my Account is 8years old and I ha e so much comment karma‘… can’t buy shit with reddit Karma and you basically work to make fucking spez more Money. Just delete the Account and Never come back, it’s a shithole anyway and you just want to hold on to old old.reddit
They can buy plenty of shit with your karma, It’s a book personally written by you about you.
It’s just not any good for ‘you’
I did not communicate that well. I didn’t mean “just left” as in recently, I meant I left out of the blue 100%. When I’m done with something, I’m done. Did the same with lemmy .world. I don’t log in and I don’t look at any of the old places. Randomly, I get info from a search, but that’s it.
Not OP but I got banned on reddit atleast 4 times. Zero bans on Lemmy though.
All for supposed harassment usually after having a disagreement in certain subreddits. Honestly could be anything their report system seems easy to abuse
Now, I don’t tend to have those on Lemmy nearly as much, but when the pedophile I was disagreeing with reported me here the mods were chill to hear my side after issuing me a warning.
For both the more chill atmosphere and the better mods I like more here.
Very sub and subject dependent honestly.
Yea, but it’s infested the whole site though, especially reddits current filters now shadowbans your accounts if you look at itwrong
Same, plus they said I was report abusing.
Zero bans on Lemmy though.
Check dubvee. You might be surprised.
Oh shit, how do I do that?
On bans I did mean sitewide as I know atleast veganhomecooks banned me (no clue why though I never interacted there. Just lurked). Fully understandable to think I meant communities with how I phrased it though lol.
Again though, I’d love to know how to check for bans. I’m very curious
I forget how I checked.
The 30rock community on dubvee’s instance made it into my “all” feed once and I tried to comment. That’s when I learned. I was super offended lol. I started by searching my name in their mod logs. Turns out I had been banned there for like 9 months. For something I said on some com that wasn’t even on their instance. Then they have some kind of scripts (?) that sync the com bans and automatically turn them into instance bans. It’s crazy. The amount of effort that went into their automated ban infrastructure and ban culture is … impressive?
That’s sorta like reddit, they have crossban privileges
Sounds like you got crossbanned, basically certain subs will look at which subs a user visits and it autobans you, for example joe roegan sub is a common to get crossbanned from several subs if you ever commented on it. The sub itself makes fun of jrogan rather than support him
Removed by mod
Hello everyone. You’re not alone. I got banned like for 4-5 times, using local Ukrainian words that may look like slurs, but they aren’t.
I got unbanned, but I am still too scared to write anything about politics on Reddit. I want a working account there for IT questions.
Make another account then. I have a shit posting account for making comments I know will be dicey. Reddit mods are fat slobs don’t let them stop you from living your dreams.
they will detect your alternate account through fingerprinting you
it’s where I am currently, unable to use any of my 100% wholesome and positively contributing accounts because I shared the opinion of “Oh no, anyways” on a burning Tesla dealership post, got banned from world news with no explanation, asked for elaboration and did not receive it, and then continued to post in that sub with another account.
did I ban evade? yes. did I first attempt to find out why I was banned? yes. was I ignored and thus continued to participate with other accounts, being careful to say nothing even close to provocative with those accounts? yes.
didn’t matter. they identified it as the same account, they banned it.

This is too much effort. I’ll wait and see if the Digg reboot is worth using.
deleted by creator
It won’t be. It can’t be. It will have to monetize, then it will have to restrict, and you end up with the same problems Reddit has.
I was watching a “Town Hall” sort of thing on YouTube with the founders behind the reboot. They seem like the sort of people who are too rich not to be detached from the perspectives of the common person. So I think you’re probably right.
That one looks fun too, hopefully they can end the monopoly Reddit has
I just found out about this too, but on Samsung phones you can install an app on the “secure folder” and that’s basically another device ID so even if you install the app there it doesn’t ban you.
Recently changed my phone, and while my new phone is completely reddit free, I tried this “secure folder” thing on my old phone(installed the official app via apk but patched to remove ads) that already was banned with a completely new account and so far it’s working well, I’ve left a few comments and such and haven’t been shadowbanned.
Now I’ll probably won’t post or do much on it anyways, I’m committing to use it less and less, but I can’t really confidently say that Lemmy fills out all communities as Reddit does
deleted by creator
Yeah me too. Honestly I like knowing that I CAN use it if needed, specially if there’s an obscure IT question I might need help with. But having it on a whole other phone let’s me not want to use it because it would mean having a whole other device to take care of battery and ughh you lost me there , so that’s my compromise, I keep it on my desk turned off until needed
deleted by creator
How do you patch to remove ads?
Get the apk from apk mirror and then patch it using ReVanced manager
I recognize this as English.
I’ll have to look into everything you said here. I may be old, but I’m always game to learn new tricks. Thanks.
Use a different email and a different browser. Turn off IP tracking in settings. You may even need to use a VPN.
or, yaknow… just fuggen leave that shitshow and be free right here
Reddit mods are fat slobs who can be easily duped, but Reddit algorithims will autoban you for making new accounts.
I’m basically exiled from it until I decide to get a new device and sign in on a new network other than my home or my work.
My solution is to browse subreddits without signing in so whenever I go to up vote or down vote anything I can’t and think, “oh right,” then go back to Lemmy (which is quickly becoming a higher quality experience anyways).
Luckily, I’ve never had issues with reddit mods, but I received a f*ck ton of global bans on r/reddit_ukr (getting carpet bombed by russian bots and the half of the comments are [deleted])
It’s the time to discover the fediverse ig. Btw any ideas where I can dump a ton of random IT memes?
I guess my advice wasn’t anygood, hardware bans and ip can go in effect if you get banned. I love Lemmy, but this community is still a young, subs for a lot of niche hobbies and shit posting dont really exist…yet.
I use voyager and kept scrolling through the reconmended sub’s list until I found something I was looking for. The search feature is hit or miss, I didnt find anything for IT memes.
I haven’t really checked this site out in a long time, but I found it helpful in the past: https://lemmyverse.net/communities
There’s a shitpost area.
I think it’s something like i7t12 ie /c/iiiiiiitttttttttttt but it could be just something that looks like that
they keep banning any other accounts I made there over being linked with the first one. I have tried unique email addresses and everything but they still figure it out within 24 hours, even when I 'm not allowed to post anything. So I just dont use reddit at all anymore.
you probably need to use a new device and on a network you havent frequently used. Unique email addresses dont mean anything if you’re logging in with the same browser with the same cookies and “digital footprint”

I got banned for pointing out that ICE are a human trafficking terrorist gang
If you ever wonder why nobody calls it terrorism when America does it, it is because people are not allowed to do so.
Yep that’s why I’m here. They banned my 12 year account for sympathizing with Luigi.
Reddit simply doesn’t want an active user base. They want passive viewers ingesting AI generated content. Much better for advertising revenue that way.
they have been culling via shadowbanning for a month now, much more aggressively like with the ban purgews. they following FB model, which is AI generated rw content.
Soon a rebrand to Redbot.com
they have been culling via shadowbanning for a month now
Way more than months. This goes at least as far back as the 2016 kerfuffle over The_Donald, ChapoTrapHouse, and other increasingly popular outside-the-mainstream communities.
Honestly easier to trace it back to 2012, when Reddit was gaining popular steam and doing lots of high profile AMAs. Shadowbanning was a great way to quash the mix of spam accounts and hecklers without letting the people running the accounts know they needed to roll up new ones.
but it drastically increased last month, even compared to feb with all the site wide bans, shadowbans are more silent, so people dont notice it right away, reddit does this intentionally because they like being sneaky and tip people off.
and yes starting 2017 on, thats where i recieved my 1st ban ever on a sub, before that there was no problems talking about politics without getting censured. but i noticed they are going to lowest hanging fruit, rather than the high profile spammers, because they usually know the instant they get shadowbanned anyways.
You can’t even play Nintendo these days
We’re Gooigi gang here. So watch yourself.
Reddit banned all the people that made it fun, now the only people left are the boring ones and bots lol
And porn
Even that is getting culled. Reddit recently nuked r/nsfw which is like the OG porn subreddit. Apparently the Reddit execs learned nothing from the demise of Tumblr.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
and not any of the fun porn like the stuff made out of bad taxidermy
Won’t be long before it becomes the next 9gag
Its pretty idiotic too. What’s the point in having a karma system if you’re just going to ban anyone who you disagree with.
Can we talk about how screwed up that streak notification is? Let’s encourage people who show signs of unhealthy usage of the platform to further their addiction?
You have a 300 day streak of using heroin, don’t stop now!
people who show signs of unhealthy usage of the platform
Hey! (You’re absolutely right)
But my streak is at 419, I can’t stop now!
Daily usage streaks isn’t a “screwed up” notification.
Plenty of people read a newspaper everyday. Or check socials each day.
A more accurate measure for unhealthy, addictive usage would be hours per day, or week.
Wait until you hear about sportsbook apps
Someone should start Blueit. See cuz they blew it, get it?
Top tier pun
Just awful, but I thought it was right there, you know?
Im sure the Democratic party use it to replace their old fundraising site ActBlue.
Which is also onomatopoeic. And literal.
Lelelelelelllll <3
My reddit account got a strike by an admin for describing the risks involved in traveling to the USA currently (abduction, torture for an undetermined amount of time). The appeal I made to that was accepted but it left a sour taste in my mouth.
Lucky you, you got handled by a moderator who wasn’t a raging Trump whore.
I got permabanned after a week long ban for “threatening violence” when I suggested that if a Trump was elected (it was in Oct24) started directley Aiding Russia in their invasion of Europe, that they’d probably end up with a dead president. I appealed and suggested that I wasn’t threatening anyone, and that whoever banned me, was politically biased and triggered. and they flipped out and perma’d me.
That’s pretty lenient, most people get permabans
deleted by creator
Reddit bans you again in absentia
deleted by creator
Reddit created an account on your behalf and banned you again for this
if reddit bots could read this they’d be very upset
I’ve had my reddit account for 17 years and I received my first warning for inciting violence because I commented “this makes me want to make a whip and go to town on these people” (a reference to Jesus running out the money changers in the temple) on a video of a megachurch service showing a woman painting trump bowing to a cross.
I just got banned myself for calling a moderator woke. F reddit
Dang, I called one an autistic dork and only got 3 days. Nothing against autistic people. I’m something of an autistic myself. I just knew it would trigger him. Then I mocked him in the unban request too for being a “thin-skinned bitch.”
I’ve also said “I fully endorse Luigi and his slaughter of CEOs.”
Why is it so hard for me to get my permaban?
You have to be nice to someone they don’t like.
Hahahhahahah

Doesn’t sound great for you…
You sound like a conservative that doesn’t know what your talking about, if it’s based on sarcasm, but if it’s based on bigotry, you had no place in reddit as surely in other forums. Nobody likes a obnoxious loudmouth
Agreed. It was mostly based on frustration on how the littlest comment now on Reddit gets you banned. My mistake for getting hot headed and calling him a name.
Was that ironic usage of the word or did you just out yourself on your first day?
I may have
