I’ve written this multiple times in the last few months. I’ll keep doing it because people need to get the message: There isn’t going to be an impeachment, and even if there were, it would fail.
The impeachment process requires cooperation from both houses of congress. A simple majority in the house of representatives must vote to approve articles of impeachment. Then the Senate decides what to do with them. They can hold a trial or they can just vote. Conviction requires a 2/3 majority of the Senate. This is why both attempts to impeach Trump previously already failed. The Senate Republicans simply moved to an immediate vote and killed it.
Now, consider that Republicans currently hold a majority in both houses. THERE WILL BE NO IMPEACHMENT barring a major upset in the midterm elections. Even then it is almost guaranteed to fail. Impeachment is not going to save us.
i think everyone realises that there will be no impeachment, but it’s useful to point out that any single 1 of these acts SHOULD result in impeachment and that it’s REPUBLICANS as a whole that are betraying their role in the system; not ONLY a single man

I dunno about you, but I wanna see how many impeachments Trump can rack up before he leaves office/dies. I’m hoping for at least triple digits.
That would just prove that we have no real consequences for breaking our laws if you’re the president and that impeachments are toothless.

Everything he does can be grounds for impeachment, but if the republicans control all branches of government even if impeached (he was impeached 3 times last time) they will never remove him from office.

Seattle PD literally had to be partially taken over by the federal government because it was so corrupt and would not curb its officers… this is going to be VERY problematic in Seattle and surrounding areas.
By definition the federal government will return Seattle PD back into what it was, but with federal backing and technical support.
I’m in a smaller city and even our local PD has two apcs. This is a nightmare.
In all honesty if they have to APCs then they have one APC maybe half an APC, those things are designed with military logistics in mind so their parts are easy to replace if not particularly robust.
Have you not wondered why they keep trying to get the military involved? It’s because they think the military is above the law and can just shoot anyone and do what they want.

So…those of you who have lived though things like this, realistically what can an individual do?
Im talking beyond voting. Stock up on things? Get to know all my neighbors?
Because of an earlier Executive order, ICE (and related law enforcement) no longer needs to have a warrant. Now we are talking about militarizing local police forces. What happens if my family and I get disappeared?
Organize. Organize. And organize.
Not speaking from experience, but if history has taught us anything, the best course of action is practicing mutual aid. Talk to locals. And arm yourselves.
Many Germans were wondering the same thing nearly a hundred years ago.
Some of them decided to move while they still had the chance. You could say it’s traditional to move across the ocean if your country becomes a totalitarian dictatorship. The other options aren’t that nice though. Once the system falls apart you could be judged for just going with the flow.
Where can Americans even go? It’s not like immigrating is easy, most of us can’t afford it and Western Europe is no guarantee considering vlad is breathing down their neck

Those are some pretty interesting conditions. Sounds like in order to make this work, you shouldn’t enter through an official land border crossing. Instead, you should enter through other means (plane, ship, rocket), but you should also just chill out as a tourist for two weeks before making a refugee claim. Makes me wonder what’s the rationale behind this.
Yeah, I don’t quite get it myself. The only thing I can think of is that it might be designed for American citizens living abroad, but I can’t quite figure out why there either.
Maybe it’s just being onerous enough to discourage all but the most serious attempts.
Canada and some European countries have accepted refugees from the US but from what I’ve read it’s incredibly rare and requires and extraordinary amount of proof that your life is under threat and you have no other choice than to move to those countries.
I’d imagine that’s because of the STCA, but there seems to be a loophole where it doesn’t apply if you enter via water and don’t claim refugee status before 14 days.
If I were really determined, I’d at least ask an immigration lawyer about it, and then I’d plan on taking a 2 week camping trip in Canada when I thought shit was likely to go down.
Occasionally, I watch some queer videos on YT, just to see how they see the world from their perspective. Recently, the tone has shifted and some are even advising other people to go back into the closet. Especially gender minorities appear to be afraid of what’s going on these days. Maybe someone in that category could convincingly claim that their life is in danger. I wonder if it also applies to gay people.

If you have a lot of money, or have an in-demand skill, perhaps they’ll take you, but any American in a new country is going to face the same difficulties that immigrants in America face - discrimination, crime, exploitation, difficulty in finding jobs, bigotry, etc.
Better to stay in America and fight back.
Check in with friends and family regularly. If you go missing, have them report it and call your lawyer.
Ideally you wouldn’t let them take you alive, since CECOT is a death sentence anyway.

The governors have to allow it. The federal government cannot mobilize the military in a state unless the governor of that state allows it. Posse Comitatus, if Trump attempts to send in the military against the governors wishes, we are talking civil war levels of federal vs state’s rights. I hope state militias are ready to defend themselves.
We’ll see what happens with the new yes men in place. However, there was a DoD wide email that went out when he first started snatching people (though some didn’t get it for some reason). It stated:
Think long and hard before assisting other agencies outside the DoD. If your actions are deemed to be against your oath, you could be investigated and actions taken against you. Remember, you serve the constitution of the United States. Not the president.
Wa state has just passed a law stating that other state’s national guard, cannot enter our borders to take any actions. I would bet that that would include military personnel stationed in state.

ICE would have to battle the governor’s security. ICE doesn’t have the stones to go up against people who aren’t essentially terrified and helpless.

Including when to use it. It is a last resort. If you pull a gun on any law enforcement officer, even if fully justified, you will be going to jail at best, and killed on the spot at worst.
This is the part I have a hard time with. I want to defend myself and my family, but pulling a weapon on authorities means you’re gonna die. These ICE/militarized PDs aren’t going to pause a second if they get any excuse to put you down. They might not even bother with the paperwork at this point.
Unless we’re in a “take as many of them with you when you go” situation. But that’s a different conversation than the “organize and call your lawyer” advice I’m seeing in this thread.

Yeah, as an immigrant who doesn’t much like the idea of dying, I can’t ever see myself deciding to suicide by cop rather than be deported. Being deported would suck ass harder than most things I’ve experienced - I’d lose my house, my job, be separated from my partner - but still preferable to being gunned down and drowning in my own blood as it fills my lungs.

Nothing of the green new deal ever happened, but the Republicans acted as if everything was fully enact. And police funding actually soared during their administrations, but Republicans act like all police forces were gutted (remember the cowardly police action at Uvalde? They claim it was the police defunding that caused it when the Uvalde PD’s funding was never touched).
I sometimes wished we lived in the fantasy world Republican propagandists say we live in. If we did, ironically none of the fascists we see online or on TV would be around since they would all be conveniently ‘disappeared’.
Because most (not all) of the Democrats are trying to govern, but most (not all) of the Republicans are trying to take advantage of the system.
The problem (as I see it) is that more money is being poured into the Republican party from many angles. They have reinforced think tanks, special interest groups, media platforms, billionaires, etc where they profiteer off of winning. The Democrats have some of that, but woefully behind.
