Exactly. There are rare instances of people breaking that law. It is possible to do so. But I think we know how few guilty verdicts there are, now don’t we.
Overstaying a visa, which accounts for more immigration violations than illegal border crossings, is a civil offense.
It’s incorrect to say that there’s almost no crime involved, but it’s definitely not all or most people who commit immigration violations.
So Melania isn’t actually a criminal just a civil infractor.
