Paul McCartney’s official Reddit account seems to have been banned. The account, u/paulmccartney, had just dropped a set of photos and videos from the first night of his shows at the Fonda Theatre. It went straight into the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit. Then, not long after, the whole thing disappeared.
How does that biowaste bin fire still have users who can read and write?
Because there are still a lot of content creators, especially in the technology field. If the process of sharing code and projects and receiving feedback took place on another platform, nobody would use Reddit. That’s my only reason.
Reddit has a lot of established local community subreddits, and when you are that established, its hard to give up.
Disclaimer: I was just banned on a second account after being found out for my first ban (I said some things with, well, lets say “high praxis”) and I am not happy about it.
I was banned for prohibited content on my “other accounts.”
I only have one account. (Appeal was denied, and I suspect the entire operation was done by bots. It literally said, “go look at your other accounts to see what you did wrong.”)
Meanwhile, another user over there is advocating violence against a very well known public figure (I’m sure you can guess what and who), and the comment is still up and the poster is not banned. -throws up hands-
i got first permabanned by a mod from r/news for commenting “when a terrorist hides in a school full of children it is not ok to blow up the school with the children still in it” under an article about IDF doing just that while hunting for some hamas fighters (no warning, no previous infractions, straight permaban, reason: “you broke the community rules” - no further explanation). it hurt a bit cause i did not participate in any political discussions normally. but shortly after that there was a picture of WW2 nazi flag on someone’s front yard in ohio and people started suggesting that someone should bring a veteran to this person to explain them the error of their ways. i didn’t resist and responded that this person knows exactly what they are doing and they do it cause there are no consequences to it. i also wrote that somebody should “tar and feather them and chase them around” - after which my account got restricted cause “we are trying to create a community where everyone can feel safe and therefore we cannot tolerate calls for violence against others”.
I got banned for keeping it too real. 😎
yea its definitely bot/AI moderation on reddit, reddit wont scale back this, due to them having less work to appeal to all those bans.
All also you know the ban is done by a AI/bot is if gives a generic message like “your other accounts violated, this or that” instead of the ban telling which community you got banned in.
reddit doesnt go after propaganda bots, as far as ive observed they target only the ones they cant benefit from(OF accounts, people who connect thier posts thier business".
and right wing propaganda is quite lucrative right now.
Are you bwhind a cg-nat? That might explain why they might claim that
LOL I don’t even know what that is 😄
I’m guessing this public figure is someone with…questionable involvement in current affairs, or is not aligned with Conservative interests?
Yep checks out.
He sits in a big gold office in a big white house.
I too am a refugee from Reddit.
Do we refer to ourselves as Lemmings now?
The other night I was watching John Stewart and he made an interesting comment. He said that reddit only recently became usable because it was too gross before. Insane especially from him
reddit got worst with all the AI/botting spamming, and reddit banning people, why does he think it got better ?
That whole API shitshow didn’t help…
whoever has the most users has most of the users. until they decide they don’t have any users, they will continue to have this true statement be correct constantly
Is Paul on Lemmy yet?
reddit says he wasn’t banned but temporarily restricted during a password reset requirement, which showed him as banned due to a reddit bug
that bug has been ongoing since last year, it resulted in a ton of bans. one of my last accounts during the purge has the “password request” the first time he freed up my account from “ban” and then a 2nd time it shadowbanned me. something tells me its somewhat intentional to cull the numbers on reddit.
It’s funny how a lot of the complaints I’m reading here are about how Reddit is unfriendly toward left-leaning people but all the right wing people complain about how Reddit is a cesspool of liberal propaganda.
It just goes to show that the platform plays both sides just to promote hate and anger.
I visited after I got banned and the default posts that show up without logging in (therefore uncurated) were all so irritating that I had to assume they were all ragebait.
Reddit is hostile towards left-leaning people, and it is also a cesspool of liberal propaganda. Liberals fucking hate leftists, even more than they hate fascists, because liberalism is fundamentally pro-capitalism. That’s why the mainstream media is currently crashing out about people like Hasan Piker, who actually represent a growing base of support for socialism, and they run every possible smear they can.
Reddit is a cesspool of liberal
Liberals are not left wing
Yes they are. Liberal covers a wide range of ideology. The liberal versus leftists debate is a Russian pysop
The American use of political terms like liberal and socialist are warped from their original meanings.
Both can mean supporting healthcare for everyone for example. Even though that’s neither a policy following from the theory of liberalism, nor is socialized healthcare dependent on following socialism.
The same is true for progressivism and leftists. All of these terms are often used interchangeably to the previous two.
There’s a deep lack of nuance and specificity.
Actual Marxist leftists and democratic liberals are ideologically opposed to another in many ways. In the US they might agree on better healthcare for everyone and waving rainbow flags. Liberals should be for free markets, (regulated) capitalism, freedoms, etc. A leftist should be opposed to all of these. Freedom to a Marxist means something else than to a liberal.
Nowadays a lot of political discourse across the spectrum is deeply rooted in identity, creating division, virtue signaling, moralist preaching, etc.
Discussion on specific politics and details is often cut short by the above campism and clinging to identities.
This applies to the right and the left equally.
Ok, whatever. The point was that they have fun seeing us bicker over shit for their profit.
But the right doesn’t know that.
yea just like other social media platforms, they allow astroturfing thats why its both sides getting triggered.
It’s because the platform is full of people who can’t handle someone not agreeing with them, so anyone who says they’re wrong is immediately labelled as the enemy.
Worse, they allow these same people into power while the real owners of the site make money out of the inhumanoids overrunning the whole system.
I got banned for posting that Trump is a piece of shit. KTHXBAI!

Your pictures are welcome here, Paul!
So, in conclusion, Reddit banned McCartney for posting images from his own concert in his own subreddit? Wild…
Turns out it was copyright infringement! Who knew? /s
Even nobility is subject to royalty.
That moderator should be un-moderated.
The whole platform should cease to exist.
Yes, I’ve been getting very bad vibes from that place for a while now. It seems very filtered and the content is no longer reflective of what people upvote. It’s tracking more to corporate interests and propaganda. Also, I think a lot of people have unintentionally divulged their most private information and don’t even know it. Their innermost thought expressed in comments, likes dislikes cataloged in votes, all under the false sense of an anonymity. It would be very easy, especially now with AI, to link IPs, browser thumbprints, and writing style analysis back to individual people, at a mass scale. I think a reckoning is coming.
I got banned from a bunch of Reddit subs for once telling someone they were wrong about the Yorkshire accent in the UK. They called me a liar about being British and then I got banned from like 30 places at once.
I got a “permanent suspension” from all of Reddit. Isn’t a suspension temporary, wouldn’t a permanent suspension just be a ban?
Maybe it’s the difference between undoable or not undoable.
If you think about it, when a judge gives you a “suspended sentence” for a crime, it is permanently suspended meaning there is no set expiry. But it can be made to expire if needed.

Plenty of .ml related moderators on other groups as well that will ban users on lemmy as well because of .ml bs.
Is the trick to simply not care?
Yes that happens, for some reason that user actively goes to FuckAI and bans people who posted there. I can only assume that they see disdain for AI as a personal slight.
Removed by mod
I think it’s the direct mention of the user that the c/technology mods didn’t like, which I can understand. You might be better off removing it from your comment.
Yeah so the AI haters have doxxed them, posted their photos on Lemmy, and harassed them non stop.
But you got banned, that’s rough buddy.
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
It’s pretty straightforward, they’ve been targeted and doxxed and harassed by anti ai trolls on Lemmy. You probably downvoted some posts in their comms, contributing to this and got banned.
If it’s a comm that doesn’t interest you, why are you even going on about it a month later to shit talk the user?
why are you even going on about it a month later to shit talk the user?
Why did I mention something relevant to the conversation? That’s your question?
You could have easily done so without directly linking them. That adds nothing except pushing your vendetta and directing more harassment at them.
I don’t have a vendetta. I’m entirely ignorant of the context you’re describing. I got blanket banned from a series of communities by aforementioned user for (presumably) downvoting. I’m not really very interested in continuing this.
Two wrongs don’t make a right
I got a sitewide warning a couple of months ago for suggesting that Trump’s inaugural “board of peace” meeting was the apotheosis of the “you have one bullet…” thought experiment. “After reviewing, we found that you broke Rule 1 because you threatened violence or physical harm.” I’ll wager Trump’s secret service guys were absolutely shitting themselves when they read it, so it’s probably for the best they took it down tbf.
On the bright side, it was the kick up the backside that was needed to get me to try Lemmy, and I hardly use Reddit at all now.
I replaced every one of my comments and posts with lorem ipsum before I terminated my accounts.
I got banned from one of the UK subreddits when someone posted a lengthy comment about why Brexit was amazing, and I responded that Brexit was idiotic. I got banned for “being political” and the person I was responding to didn’t lol.
Sounds like you were a dick and didn’t realize and doubled down. No way to tell now.
What a bold and insulting statement to make with absolutely no information to back it up.
Based on how you tell the story.
It’s a reasonable scenario for the result and your interpretation of it.
Sounds like you were a dick and didn’t realize and doubled down…
I realized I was a bit off base. Seems like you took it to heart.
People really ought to read who they are replying to.
I got banned from about 15 subreddits I never even knew existed once by calling out a transphobic dogwhistle, and when I inquired about the bans, the mods insinuated I was a child molester and neo-nazi.
Reddit mods don’t need to follow any sort of logic.
And confidently asserting someone is a dick because they got banned from a subreddit is hilarious, and should probably prompt some self-reflection.
There sure are cases of injust behavior by power tripping mods. That being said just presuming guilt and malice is unfair to the volunteers taking care of reddit today.
But its okay to presume guilt and malice of the person commenting here?
“Taking care of reddit”
lol fuck reddit
The appropriate way to take care of Reddit is to shut it down, sell all its assets and donate the proceeds to blind dogs, imprison every paid member of staff, put their families into foster homes (if any of them aren’t incels), bulldoze their dwellings, salt their fields, and systematically delete anything online that they ever uploaded.
Then dunk the shareholders’ heads one by one in a bucket of horse piss, duration of dunking in proportion to the number of shares held.
I know it’s milder than they deserve, but you gotta start somewhere.
You could have just not typed anything and everything and everyone would have been better off for it.
I once got banned from some weird parenting subreddit I’d never visited because I said cheeseburgers aren’t kosher, some mods are just freaking weird (or bots.)
My three notable bans:
- Banned from politics for quoting the Constitution on treason punishment
- Banned from gym for arguing with a “pro” claiming there are no stupid exercises and bad form doesn’t exist.
- Banned from child free for saying not every one that is child free hates children with the passion of a burning sun and wants them all to die.
Edit: I forgot to mention when time number 2 happened. I asked the mod “Why was I banned?” Then my entire account got a 3 month suspension for “Mod abuse” by the admins.
ooh the gym sub is quite awful, they act as if people losing their weight and getting jacked suddenly is not due to steroids and act as long “arduous battle” they do ban for mentioning PEDs too, bitch you people cheated your way to that body aka shortcut, instead of taking months-years to get that body. one post i came across, the guy was very overweight and suddenly hes lean and all buff from roids/peds and act as if he got that all on his own journey, i think it took less than a year for that. i can see 20 somethings getting a body similar to that if they already thin and workout all the time. but a 300+lb going to a muscular body in that time.
When Epstein was sent to prison and was in protective custody, I suggested that he shouldn’t have special treatment and belonged in genpop.
Banned for advocating violence against someone.
May that mod have a spasm and faceplant hard on a gravel road, then be forced to drink cold hot-dog water while listening to Baby Shark at high volume on an endless loop. And may all their teeth fall out but one, and in that, may they have a toothache.
I got banned for suggesting someone should drill a hole in the Charlie kirk statue

That’s somehow badly proportioned. Didn’t he have a smaller face on that big head?
He looks fused with the Orange Man and that’s just cursed.
Compared to the ones listed above you this one I can understand, although it is really funny.
What’s funny about ruining a perfectly good drill bit?
By drilling a perfectly bad statue.
It was just a suggestion… geez
It’s interesting you mention the Baby Shark thing. In Oklahoma there were some prison guards who forced multiple people at various times to stand handcuffed in a stress position for hours listening to Baby Shark for the purpose of torturing them. There was also other forms of physical abuse that happened.
The guards were arrested but were given 2 years of probation. But you as an average citizen get caught up in some war on drugs bullshit where you didn’t even victimize anyone and your unlikely to get the same treatment in many cases, especially in some harsher states.
Former Oklahoma jail officers sued over ‘Baby Shark’ torture tactic are placed on probation
Christian Charles Miles and Gregory Cornell Butler Jr. pleaded no contest to misdemeanor cruelty to a prisoner
A federal civil rights lawsuit four inmates filed in 2021 accused Miles and Butler of using excessive force and discipline tactics described as “torture events.”
Joseph Mitchell, said he was pulled from his cell in November 2019 and placed in a room where he was forced into a “standing stress position” for three to four hours while he was handcuffed behind his back, according to the lawsuit. Officers then played “Baby Shark” on repeat so loud “that it was reverberating down the hallways,” it said.
Ja’Lee Foreman Jr., another inmate, said in the suit that he was not forced to listen to the song but was placed in a stress position and then kneed in the back and slammed into a wall by Miles. Foreman alleged that Miles spat on him as Butler laughed.
In addition to probation, Miles and Butler must complete 40 hours of community service, and they were fined $200 and ordered to pay $300 in victims’ compensation. They are also no longer allowed to work in law enforcement, the court records state.
Butler’s attorney, Lance Phillips, said his client is “happy this matter is behind him.” If Butler remains out of trouble while on probation, he will not have a misdemeanor conviction on his record, Phillips said Wednesday.
Prison guards are way too comfortable torturing people
I think my worst one was being banned from the united kingdom sub for suggesting an immigrant who stabbed a random child in the face should be deported to the middle of the ocean. Had a few hundreds up votes when they banned me so I’d say most people agreed.
i got banned from EUROPE, and ukraine report for some wierd reason, how thier current situation of a post is due to US INFLUENCE. they dont like the fact that russia/us is influencing thier problems.
I am permanently banned, for using the term “kick rocks and pound sand,” which is just American for “there’s nothing you can do.” An excuse to get one more leftist off the platform.
I got permanently banned for insinuating Donald Trump was a pedophile. I appealed and they blew me off, no response. Tried to sign up for another account and got immediately IP banned for ban evasion.
Id been on the platform for 14 years and had over 1M comment karma. Somehow the last 14 years of my contributions to the site never caused anything, not even so much as a subreddit ban, but pointing out that Donald Trump is a sexual predator was a bridge too far for them.
I find it curious that Reddit Admins are trying to limit discussion of the factual statement that our current president is a documented child rapist. Guess the investors theyre courting are probably in the files, or at the very least, dont see nothin wrong with a little pedorasty.
reddit detects ban evasion quite eaisly now. unless you use a different device and IP address you will get banned on any new accounts. when before you can just lay low on a new account.
Reddit is quietly pivoting to become a Conservative platform, with lots and lots of monetization.
I knew that the people running the show were scumbags, but i guess I never knew they were MAGA scumbags.
I should have made the switch after their API horseshit, but I guess a lesson learned late is better than not learning the lesson at all.
They aren’t MAGA as much as they are capitalist, and MAGA is in power right now
Spez is also into whatever ideology is popular among the tech rich of Silicon Valley at any given time. Right now that’s technofascism
Banned from gym for arguing with a “pro” claiming there are no stupid exercises and bad form doesn’t exist.
Heh, I was also banned for the same reason as you - quoting the exact text of the constitution to say what should happen to insurrectionists. My appeal was denied in seconds.
The time before that it was during the presidential debate live watch threads, and there was a portion of the broadcast where the camera dipped away from the speaker, so I wrote “kill the cameraman!”, an obviously non-serious statement in reference to the subreddit /r/killthecameraman, and got banned for that. That was only a three week suspension I think. The mod who banned me also handled my appeal as well, promptly ignored.
An old account got banned on multiple completely unrelated subreddits because I was having a discussion with someone that self identified as a “responsible pitbull owner” and I asked them as part of the pitbull community to talk to irresponsible pitbull owners and make them responsible instead of defending them. Turns out the “responsible pitbull owner” was one of those mod hoarders on their alt account and went full pitbull when somebody dared to disagree with them. I filed a complaint to admins for mod abuse and obviously nothing happened.
And my current account has had multiple temporary bans for making fun of nazis. I mean, sure, I can take a temp ban for “inciting violence” when I remind the kids that every day is punch a nazi day. But these fragile little snowflakes can’t even take some basic banter and the mods fold immediately when the nazis start weeping. It’s funny and sad, isn’t it.
he must a POWER mod, someone that is a mod only multiple accounts. plus subreddits can cross ban people too.
I got permabanned from the whole site for calling Ann Coulter racist lmao
What do you mean bad form doesn’t exist? Serious question.
He was saying there’s no such thing as bad form for an exercise. I was posting video clips of people with bad form getting hurt as examples. He would then make up some stuff about it wasn’t the form that caused them to get hurt.
Oh, sorry, I didn’t read it correctly. I thought YOU were saying it.
It’s a new idea being floated by the medical experts of the Sackler family.
My favorite will always be being banned from AITAH for being too mean?/honest?/using a curse word? I’m not sure they just said my language was inappropriate. I may have used the word asshole.
AItah/aita is mostly AI generated which is kind of wierd to ban for that.
I think you’ve perfectly described both AITAH and reddit with that sentence.
I agree. It was weird.
I still havent gotten a response from the site owners why I got completely removed (ip-ban)
Last thing was me arguing with a mod about the reason I got sub banned: me simply commenting “source:[tabloid’s name]” under a news post that was baiting incitement. they claimed I was derailing when the whole post was literally just the blog post of that bad faith tabloid in a rather “serious” sub /de XD
its a joke of a platform that carefully fosters a gullible army of bootlickers it seems, at least to me being left on read like that
Just got my first ever warning the other day.
Was a comment about voting on using gallows or guillotines to solve some problems in the US.
Wasn’t even advocating it, just offering it as a suggestion to those living there.
A modest proposal if I ever heard one!
And kind of violence, serious or not, seem to result in bans from the comments I read on Lemmy.
TIL Sir Paul McCartney is on Reddit.
Was on Reddit
Fux you spez.
Reddit will ban you for even the mildest of takes. Their AI admin is draconian in metering out bans. The platform seems to really want to get rid of all of the pesky humans still there and just be a safe space for bots.
I was joking with a commenter, they said something like “oh, my mistake. Please don’t kill me” and I replied “haha too late, I’m already coming at you with scissors!” and I got a suspension for threatening someone.
Weird how my reddit use went down by 99% after that. I still have the account, I keep thinking maybe I’ll need it to ask a question or something… Probably wont. Might as well go delete it now lol
Yeah I miss asking super niche questions on certain subs, because there’s usually enough users to have a prompt reply.
But fediverse is growing, slowly. Sadly best way to keep growing it is to stay and promote it on Reddit, everyone who’s fed up for the same reasons we are are ripe for the plucking.
Comes with a bunch of idiots, of course, myself included so YMMV.
I promoted it on Digg. 😜
And the circle… Completes…
Or is it a spiral? I forget.
I got a site wide ban and all my alts were banned at the same time because I called someone who was shitting on Trans people “a disgusting piece of human garbage”. Apparently that was inciting hatred or violence and I can no longer make an account without it being banned within an hour or two.
To be fair if you mention trans at all you’re probably getting banned and get your name on a list.
Fuck me I guess. I’m Poly married to a trans person and have a trans gf. I guess that’s what got me.
Man you guys just can’t catch a break…
Probably not relevant to the topic at hand.
It’s pretty relevant. Who are you pulling all that weight for?
How is getting banned for the mildest takes relevant for posting a link to a drop box with concert images?
Are you actively ignoring the similarities between these instances or do you genuinely not understand that they’re both examples of strange and excessive moderation?
To me this seems like an auto mod fuck up that is quite reasonable and an embarrassing delay of manual review coupled with a classic dogpile.
“manual review” …
…rriiiiigghht…
There is zero benefit to banning celebrities and taking the fallout. Why would they? If they are profit driven they wouldn’t. Even if they were cartoonishly evil they only hurt themselves.
If it gets manually reviewed it’ll only be because this dogpile happened. Lots of people get banned like this with no recourse because they aren’t Paul McCartney
Probably true. Moderation and heavy handedness shouldnt go hand in hand. And permanent bans are stupid as people lose their legacy and incentive to be nice and constructive when losing their history.
The topic is reddit overzealously banning people. People commented with their experiences being banned by overzealous reddit mods and admins.
If you don’t like it, you can go somewhere else. That’s how the threadiverse works. You don’t have to be here if you don’t like the conversation, but you don’t get to tell people what not to post or comment.
If that’s how you want to be, go back to your beloved reddit where you can be a mod and ban people for stupid reasons. No one here will miss you.
It’s always interesting to see people commenting who don’t understand how reddit works. Which is fair - you can have an opinion. But knowing how it works makes a difference in how seriously I can take your opinion.
Mods on reddit cannot do a sitewide ban. They can ban you from one or more subreddits they moderate.
Admins do sitewide bans, which is what’s happened here, since you can see the profile has been banned.
And these days, with reddit’s shitty AI moderation, it probably means a ban done by AI.
Because this is not a normal person, someone will probably take a look at it and overturn it.
If you’re a regular joe, however, them taking a look at it even if you appeal is pretty damned rare. And as some have mentioned - things that trigger AI as a “threat of violence” that a normal human would easily see are not - doesn’t matter, AI bans. You get a warning, 24-hour, 3-day, 10-day, 30-day, then permanent. Unless there’s something that accellerates that.
As much as many people manage to survive without saying things AI picks up on, it’s damn easy to get unjustly banned, and it’s only gotten worse and worse over time.
Anyone in this thread talking about bans from mods is technically offtopic, except that reddit itself is also the topic, so that’s fine, but you should understand that a mod banning you is not similar to what happened here. :P
not anymore they dont, they have AI moderation to do the sitewide bans/shadowbans, there is no input from the admins themselves.
Yep, I got a site wide ban for wishing a missile strike on Putin. “Threat of violence”… as if it was something that I threatened to do :/
I got one for commenting on the France subreddit that it wasn’t surprising some people would carry justice by themselves if the police and courts do nothing. I wasn’t justifying, merely explaining. Subreddit ban, then permanent sitewide ban a few minutes later.
I once got a ban for quoting the current US president. Apparently when a random anonymous redditor says it, it’s “inciting violence,” but when the president says it, it’s “patriotic.”
I got several bans for the same kind of thing.
didn’t realize that clearly quoting somebody else’s words so they could be discussed was me saying and meaning those words myself
First time is got a temp ban was when I said it was a pity that the Butler shooter missed. When I was back, I told to the story of why I had been banned, and bam! Got banned again for quoting myself. Reddit is totally insane.
My ban was because I replied to someone who wished Trump would succumb to his cheeseburger gods. I replied that instead I hope he strokes out and suffers.
I got a ban a few times for “advocating violence” or whatever when I said “I’m surprised there haven’t been more attacks on [whatever shitty group is harming people]”
no judgement on it. just saying that I’m surprised they’re haven’t been more.
Lmfao!
^ I can confirm this. It’s why I refuse to interact on Reddit anymore. Fuck em.
Mods can trigger an automatism that leads to bans. Not in this case, but it is possible.
Looks like the account is reinstated. Good to know that’s how to reach human support there: be Literally Paul McCartney.
The posts are gone, though. I hope this was the decision of McCartney or his team. Reddit doesn’t deserve him.
celebrity accounts have special priveleges from getting banned arbitrarily. Sinese is another celeb that has been posting his usual propaganda, how convenient for the guy to suddenly show up just before the election and posting military ganda. and shortly after that how he “left hollywood for his son” and not because he came out a REPUBLICAN shill(subtley) that would derailed his career in hollywood anyways.
Kind of tangential to the topic but reddit has been appropriating user names for celebrities and companies. The first known instance (as far as I know) was u/borat. I was surprised thiskind of thing wasn’t a bigger deal.
I wouldn’t be surprised if u/paulmccartney is such a case. A basic name that’s only a 5 year old account. No way nobody grabbed that before.
But how would a fake Paul get access to the real Paul’s private footage of his own, not-filmed-by-audience show?
That’s exactly how they getcha. It’s the perfect con, you see!
Start by killing the real Paul in a motorcycle accident.
all the evidence is on their albums if you play them backwards
it would be hard to fake it, if they can provid actual private footage. gary sinese is another one that is on reddit quite often, he posts something that nobody has.
