I’m not quite sure that would be the biggest issue.

    Fans: “Remaster the game!”

    Company: “We can’t.”

some fan somewhere starts remastering the game

Company: sues fan and shuts down the project

    Wash, rinse, repeat

You forgot the part where the fan starts charging for their mod.

          Happen somewhat frequently.

Yuzu did it, turtle wow did it, cyberpunk VR did it, several idiots who have redone pokemon have done it.

It’s time consuming to make a huge mod or software and I completely understand why they want to charge.

But it is for sure the best way for a company to target you with their lawyer laser.

These days, both Bethesda and Obsidian are owned by Microsoft, though Avellone argues that just because the two companies have the same owner doesn’t mean they’re necessarily going to play nice.

Not sure they have much say in the matter, if MS wants a remaster it’ll happen.

It will happen if someone suggests putting copilot in it to further spread the Microslop infection

Fallout New Vegas CoPilot 365 Special Edition. All your saves go to OneDrive automatically where they’ll get corrupted/deleted every other autosave. Obviously it will require 24/7 internet connectivity since you don’t have local saves. In-game merchants will have Creations to purchase, like US$60 Dogmeat armor.

For those that didn’t read the article: Bethesda didn’t buy the source code from Obsidian for $10k. It’s unclear why Bethesda didn’t buy it; and it’s unclear exactly why they can’t get it now even though they’re both owned by microslop. Bad blood between the companies maybe?

My guess is that they just lost it, anyway. Most non-owners do the bare minimum preservation.

    But you have AI! 🤣

Also they managed to do it with Diablo 2 without the source code, so… There could be a way.

i mean it was originally made in a fucking year, i’m sure they can manage remaking it in a different engine (well, it’s bethesda, it’ll be the same engine with a 15cm thick layer of wax ontop) when they won’t even have to do most of the work.
