No one’s ever made a photo grainy before, it had to be artificial intelligence!

          Sure.

Anyway, here’s how the pictures compare in any image editor (the darker the more identical the pixel):

Notice that I lined the UFO up, but the skyline is now all out of whack, which seems to be a lot of work to give to oneself if all you wanted to do was add 4 words. Similarly, I can line up parts of the skyline, but now the UFO is at the wrong place:

In conclusion: I am pretty sure it was done with AI.

Upvoted for getting your hands dirty with the analysis. The grain doesn’t mean anything imo but yeah that alignment is fishy

I feel like it’s more likely the creator just moved the UFO for some reason, since lining the skylines puts just the UFO out of place.

You cannot align the cranes left of the explosion AND the warehouse to the right AND the smokestacks at the far right either, they, or rather it, moved random parts of the skyline around.

                So we’re either looking at

                1. Somebody photoshopped the composition of the original image
                2. The original image was fake and the person adding the text messed with the placement of the layers when adding text.
                3. chatgpt add the following words to the bottom of this image and make it look more like the “I want to believe” poster from x-files

Both Occam’s and Hanlon’s razors clearly point to option 3

Idk why you’re getting so many downvotes. It is very clearly created by AI with the actual image as an input.

All jokes aside, I’m seriously impressed that the roof structure maintained it’s integrity and didn’t just shred to pieces in the explosion

It’s probably a floating roof. In the petro they use this for several reasons. Less contact between the product and air reduces oxidation. There is also less gass formed above the product reducing odour. But funny enough, it is mainly used to reduce risk of explosion …

I think that part kinda makes sense. The lid is domed, which increases its strength. The seam where the lid meets the walls would tend to be the weakest point. I’m more surprised there was such a violent explosion in the first place, usually they just burn. Could be that tank was partially empty and the area beneath the lid was a highly combustible fuel/air mix. Drone hits the tank, vapour ignites, and pop.

Domes are great in one direction, because any given section has something below it. They’re a 3D arch, something whoch would fall apart immediately if turned upside down. The great part about big rounded edges is that they distribute pressure more evenly and reduce the amount of seams present unlike a welded cube, for example.

More likely is that, yes, the connection between the roof and the rest was the weaker point and also the dome was able to basically be a parachute so it coukd catch air instead of just being flung in some random direction.

IIRC, the lid can move up and down depending on how much content there’s in the tank. Something something provides pressure if it’s a gas.

Yup, I’m not sure about this lid specifically, but some slide up and down the tank, since water is denser than oil they don’t really care if rain water gets past the seal.

The best part of this is it was hit by a Russian AA missile.

Probably :( My basis is that in game theory if you want to disincetivise a behaviour you need to keep harming agents that take that action (negative reinforcement), but I suppose that doesn’t apply here bc the Ukrainian signalling is about invading Ukraine, not the environment.

There is the additional factor that this reduces the output of oil power plants, creating more demand for electricity, so there’s now a better opportunity for someone to build renewables to get more profits. I suppose you could also build something else, switch back to coal? Lmao
