      Less depressing, she has clearly still been merged with the dog and that’s not the dog talking so the dogs mind is dead.

        Maybe the dog mind has merged with hers as well, but the daughter’s language centers happened to stay intact in the process.

        Or maybe some “essence” of the dog is maintained in the girl instead, reverse-Pemalite-style.
