The weirdest thing to me is that his comedic style has always been about embarrassing himself as much as possible to make himself the butt of the joke. It’s what his characters were most known for. Now he’s just been doing it in real life and it’s hard to say whether he’s doing a bit again or that his characters being these oblivious, completely self-unaware assholes was a reflection of his true self. But then wouldn’t it take self-awareness to realize his own lack of self-awareness?
The conclusion seems clear. He’s just an asshole and the lack of self-awareness thing was his way to turn being an asshole into comedy that he could make money from.

He’s always been like this. I remember watching the DVD extras for one of his early specials (if that gives any indication of how long ago that was) and realizing it’s not a bit - he’s just like this.

No one has ever stopped you from making racist, sexist, transphobic, etc jokes. You want to be able to make them with impunity; in a way where someone can never say “I disagree with what you say”. You demand for freedom of speech to use it in the ugliest way possible and then you receive consequences your gut instinct is to deny that same right to your critics. Coward.
I’m sure he’s right up there with Dave chappelle and similar folks where he will moan about cancel culture. There is maybe some nuance to this issue for someone who works at Arby’s to pay for a studio apartment they share and gets caught on a bad day in a viral video or something. This is not that and unfortunately those instances let these people weaponize this shit: “it could happen to YOU”. MAGA turds eat it up because they’re always 10 seconds away from calling someone a slur.
These pricks are already wealthy beyond the wildest dreams of the majority of human beings. If they never earned another dime they’d be fine, except they’d maybe not be able to buy everyone in the family a fully loaded new Mercedes every year anymore. So sad. This rhetoric is therefore deflection to again avoid consequence and silence criticism
Just admit that your joke bombed because you echoed queer hate, and projected profound sexism in a matter of seconds. And then, when trying to preserve your image, you doubled down on the sexism and somehow tried to defend the male gaze.
People used to think you were funny because you had a smaller platform and you punched up by making fun of the common oppressors. But now that you’ve joined a more elite class, you’ve refused to put in the work to explore how to keep punching up from either our perspective or yours. You’ve become complacent due to the size of your platform, and know that punching down will keep you in the headlines better than “Ex-awards host comedian said something funny.”
But you forgot that people see you up on your platform and use your status and willful ignorance as a weapon in their own arsenal of hatred. How could someone so elevated and standing on such a large platform be wrong? Do something good with the dwindling credibility that you have left and apologize. Admit that you were wrong, and speak out against the hatred that you inadvertently promoted. Then make a joke about something actually relatable, such as celebrities that didn’t notice their creeping status rise fully remove them from their fans’ relatable experiences.
