If you’re on Firefox, most of the time you can circuvent this bs by entering reader more.
you can also try putting a period after the domain suffix, some websites like nytimes lose their paywalls

put a . after the .com in the url, so “www.nytimes.com.” will disable all paywalls.
pretty sure it only works on a couple sites, because it’s such a silly thing to let slip through the cracks for so long, but there you go.
