        the original image

i would encourage you to compare the original panel to the posted version yourself, and try to reason about it, before you read my logic

        here's my thought process

the lineart around the face is what really tipped me off, you can see the algorithm had no comprehension of what was going on with shaggy’s beard hairs. it also seems like it thickened a line that was supposed to be on his face, but made it look like an extension of his hair? this whole area was the biggest red flag for me

personally, i think the lineart the algo added just looks pretty bad, where it added lines just to block off the shading. it’s too detailed for the original drawing, and ofc the up-ressing is supposed to make it look more sophisticated, but it doesn’t do it… good, it just looks kind of wobbly and weird. i think this is something a human artist would have made much more subdued, we tend to understand that lines like this are more supposed to create a vibe rather than draw their own attention

there’s a lot of small areas where the shading is just wrong, and a lot of places it just changed the tone of what should have been a flat color for… reasons??

(specifically, the shading on the right (viewer perspective) shoulder, the color of the left thumb is pants instead of thumb, the highlighting on the hair goes down into the shaded part?? right past the line it added to mark off the shading?? lmao)

and don’t even get me started on whatever the hell is going on in the background… interestingly, the algorithm filled in the hole in the background the original artist left, in between the torso and right arm lol

overall, i’m an artist, i’ve done a lot of art and i’ve looked at a lot of art, and this image just seemed like it to me. but there was something weird about it, right? so i looked into it deeper, and was fortunate enough to find the original source. i was happy to find it, because this would have been a deeply ironic meme to generate entirely with AI (although, the up-ressing isn’t that much better, lol)

i understand that not everyone has the background i do, but that’s why i think it’s a good idea to try to discern it for yourself. i also still get caught often by generated images because i don’t usually look too deeply at something posted on here, so it’s something i’m always working on and improving at, too. it’s hard!

it seems more like a stylistic choice than being unable to properly render a human. not every funky looking drawing is ai gen

the text does look like the one chatgpt generally uses and i have 0 clue whats going on with the face, but yeah could just be a funky drawing
