I just wanna rant about being so FAR from any lgbt events or groups, or any event for that matter that isnt rural specific which im not interested in.
It takes like hours to get to the city CBD. Any event that isnt in the CBD and we’re looking at 3 god damn hours.
I do make the 3 hour travel for DND (met them at uni) but holy shit it gets tiring. But they do let me stay over so it isnt too much of a hassle and its not super frequent.
Theres a social group I found recently buuuttt its late and takes again, 3 god damn hours. I would have to book a hotel, which I can afford so I suppose Ill suck it up but I hate how I have to pay extra. Its also once a month so I kinda need to budget on it being the responsible adult I am :(
Anyway rant over lol
Yeah, being in a rural area sucks. I’m hoping to move to a bigger city soonish, and then I’ll someday head North to Canada. In the meantime, I’ll just keep being chronically online.
I live in a village that at the last census had 41 people in it, does that count?
I mean, social events are a bit closer than 3 hours for me, cause if I drove that far in any direction I’d basically be in a different country, but yeah
Certaintly does haha. My town has approx a 1000-2000 or so, but its mostly older folks
The closest city to me is about 6000 people I think :3 but there’s nothing to do there other than going to the library maybe… and there’s another similar sized touristy one, with a theatre with is cool :3 but for anything LGBT-adjacent I’d basically have to take the train to the capital
I grew up in country New South Wales, and left long before I came out. I couldn’t imagine living there again now that I’m out
Im in victoria. At least the folks here are pretty chill.
But yeah I will be very much looking at moving out its just hard to
At least if you make the trip to Melbourne, you’re going to probably the best city in Australia for queer folk
very very true
Grew up in a rural area, can’t go back there now I’m out because it’s painfully conservative. Can I ask what keeps you in the countryside? It’s it affordability or just a love for the peace and beauty and nature?
In my city I can access a mutual support and friendship network of hundreds of trans folks, I can go to bars with gender neutral or trans inclusive bathrooms, I could go play in the friendly t-girls vs t-boys football matches, the skate meetups, the sober picnics, the bar socials, gaming groups, all organised by and for queer and trans folks. I can access free emergency hrt mutual aid groups, free blood testing clinics. I wouldn’t give that up for the world.
If I went back to my home town I could never go out anywhere, and if I did I’d have to eat shitass terrible food and get sneered at by pink faced morons who’s favourite topic of conversation is how they don’t “believe in woke”.
