One of my favorite Easter eggs. I’m pretty sure that M60 carried me up until the Yetis from SkiFree showed up.

wizards who become obsessed with the natural mysteries of black powder

The funny thing is, this makes perfect sense in-universe. The material components for the fireball spell are literally the ingredients for black powder. A wink-and-a-nudge reference for knowledgeable players becomes a valid connection between magic and technology in the lore, which is neat.

Dude I love the game setting so much. The region where firearms begin being developed is one where a wizard king and a rival necromancer dropped magical spell nukes that destabilized all magic across the landscape

So local wizards turn to firearms or finding obscure and inadvisable ways to mess with destabilized magic

The other day, I heard him say, “Can a wizard borrow a spell slot?” and my first thought wasn’t, “Dear Bahamut, he said the word, the- the W word!” It was, “Now HOW is a wizard gonna borrow a spell slot? Wizard, is you gonna give it back??”
