Team Fortress 2 comes close to that if you can ignore cosmetics. The gameplay still holds up today and its also fun to just join the Jump Academy and do some rocket jumping.
thankfully there are mods to disable cosmetics for those that don’t want to see them.
I really appreciate how much customization TF2 still allows. HUDs, configs, insane graphics tweaks, borderline cheating with legal console commands.
I like how the borderline cheating console commands arent an issue at all because of how bad the bot crisis was

Anuway TF2 has some Quake on it but it’s quite different of thearena shooter style I’m used to.
easy enough to install a no-cosmetics mod as well, which makes the game run annoyingly better.
